Mr. Livingston, a native of York, Pennsylva- nia attended Susquehanna University and Chio State where he received his MA. Degree. Before becoming class adviser he had served as LA MEMOIRE adviser for 7 years and is at the present time a member of the Commercial Department. During his three years as class teacher, Mr. Livingston has done a great deal toward fulfilling the wishes and hopes of our class. Through him we have been given help and understand- ing vvith all our problems and because of his Don't shoot 'til you see the whites of tireless efforts our class has realized many of its ambitions. For these and many other reasons we sincerely say thanks for making our three years of high school ones we'll never forget. their eyes. Qua ian o' ? 011 C rd fth I t pr gl e Loya sock - Mr. Living mis summer occupation. 4 UIUN MR. E Senio Cl DWARD H. L T Charting the Course . . Yes, another year has ended at Williamsport High. And for some of us it was not just another year, it was our last year. It's all over and we've graduated. We're on our own now. It seems strange leaving the old school for the last time as a student. From now on vve'll have only fond memories of our high school days, our athletic teams, our dances and parties-yes, and even those anxious hours during examination periods. There's no doubt about it, we've had some of the best years of our lives here at W. H. S. We're going to miss every moment of it-from our first day as bewildered sophomores to our last day as members of the graduating class of 1954. On the pages that follow, we, the members of the LA MEMOIRE staff, have compiled some of the highlights of this 1953-54 year. It is our hope that in the years to come these pages will recall the happy days we have spent together as students at Williamsport High. 6 as C14 f-. The Log ADMINISTRATION , CLASSES .... N 455523 ' ' X Class of 1954 To THE lVlEMBERS or THE CLASS OF 1954: As you receive this thirty-fifth volume of La Memoire, you will have come to the end of three of the best years of your lives. I hope they have been happy and proiitable years. You have equipped yourselves in various ways for the fu- ture, and you have made many friends. As you face the future, each one of you is looking forward to the opening of opportunities, the achievement of success, and the attainment of happiness. There will be opportunities. You will be able to enjoy them provided you have forged the tools with which to grasp them. You can achieve success if you can decide what con- stitutes succcss and let nothing deter you in striving for it. But happiness can be yours only if your idea of success is based upon improving the road of life for those who come after you, and if your idea of happiness includes the hap- piness of those with whom you must share your life. l am glad that my associations with you have been very enjoyable ones, and it is my hope that each of you will achieve a full measure of success and Hnd real happiness. a64fzxLq' ff Executive Committee Class Officers .R DON MODAY President JoAN FORESMAN Secretary NANCY POUST Vice-President GLENN McGEE Treasurer Class Advisers Mr. Edward Livingston Mrs. George Gehron Mr. Frank Reid Class Teacher Class Mother Class Father Front Raw, Left to Right-Lorraine Folmar, Marlene Buzzard, Nancy Poust, Barbara Karnan, joan Fores- Illilll. J Class of 1956 L1 Ad ' op omore Class Hlstory ass 'users On September 8, 1953 another school year be- gan with 784 students entering W. 11. S. as Sophos mores. The lirst few weeks were weeks of confusion for these new students as they went up or down the wrong stairs or to the wrong classroom, but now M George Wolf . . ell,-f T-1 -h all these mix-ups are straightened out. Now these M UL or students are looking forward to their last years at VV. H. S. Football games, pep meetings, and Hi-Tri initia- tion are a few of the things that added to the excite- ment of their first year. Incidentally, we have seen many promising newcomers on the athletic scene who may be the stars of the football, basket- ball, wrestling and track teams for the next few MVS' Edward Bi'S'li ' years. The excitement reached its climax when Mr. Class Mmm George Wrilf, sophomore class teacher, announced February 12, 1954, as the date for the Sophomore Party. Entertainment and dancino hiuhliohted the . O O D big night for the many Sophoinores who attended. The Class of 1956 looks eagerly forward to their remaining years at W. ll. and to the good times that will be remembered by all. 1 lX'Ir. Nliles H. Under the leadership of John O'Connor, editor-in-chief, the staff once again took high honors at the annual P. S. P. A. Convention, which was held in Lancaster. As always, the staff received invaluable assistance from Miss Florence Laubscher and Miss Mary Geiger, editorial advisers, and from Mr. Jack Diebert and Mr. Wayfnc Straub on the printing end. As the Billtown Banner appeared again this year, both the Banner and the Cherry and White were offered to the students for 31.00.
