V U A MOTTO: SET THE COURSE OF YOUR LIVES BY THE THREE STARS, SINCERITY, COURAGE, UNSELFISHNESSg FROM THESE FLOW A HOST OF OTHER VIRTUES. CLASS POEM Each class has had its fiery speech, To say about its members. Each year a class does some great deed, That everyone remembers. Some turn out doctors, lawyers, And even lab technicians. Others take to foreign fields, Like airmen out on missions. But what can we with numbers - So small as three times eleven'. Yes, what great thing can we attempt? The class of '57? They've made their mark in ages past, They've carried on tradition. But now they've handed down to us - The plan for life's ambition. What can we do? We've asked ourselves, What part in this production? But then the answer came at once, It took no great deduction. Just do your best in all you do, Your gain will be not small. For it's better to have tried and failed Than not have tried at all. LaVerna Beason CLASS SONG Everyday of Our Lives Everyday of our lives We'll think of Bingy High Of the friends that we had, Where kids were always glad. The ballgames lost or won Were always lots of fun. These memories will live Within our hearts. Everyday of our lives We'll think of Bingy School, Of the teachers we had, Who taught the Golden Rule. But as we live and learn, Our hearts will still return. Every moment we live, Everyday of our Lives. JIM SIL Football 1,2,3,4: A.A. 15 W Club 3,43 F,F,A, 1,23 Glee Club 1,2,3,4, NO STAR IS EVER LOST WE ONCE HAVE SEEN CLASS HISTORY In the year 1945, there were 29 frightened little boys and girls who started on their journey into the land of learning, Fourteen of these yotmgsters stayed together until they were ready for one of the biggest steps of their lives -- graduation from junior high school and admission into high school. When high school reopenedinthe fall, there were 48 of us in the freshman class. These boys and girls came from the surrounding communities of Pence, Hedrick, Judyville, and Kramer. Our class officers for that freshman year were: President, Jim Coleg Vice President, Ronnie Dee: Treasurer, Linda Bowlus, Secretary, Beverly Ward, and Reporter, Mary Jane Swarner. Mrs. Moss was our class sponsor for that year. During our freshman year, we had two class partiesg one, a picnic at Turkey Run and the second one, a Christmas Party at school. Our Carnival Queen Candidate, Beverly Ward, was elected at the annual carnival. Our sophomore class officers were: President, Beverly Ward: Vice-President, Jerry Chambers: Treasurer, Ronnie Deeg and Secretary, Maxine Iernagan. Our class sponsor was Mr. Cox. When we were sophomores, our float won first prize in the Homecoming Paradeg and Walter Downey, our candidate for king at the school carnival, was elected. Our class parties that second year were carbon copies of the previous year -- a Christmas Party at school and a picnic at Turkey Run. However, we ran the intellectual gamut and after an eventful summer, enrolled as juniors. For our junior year the class officers were: President, Jerry Chambersg Vice-President, Jim Silver, Treasurer, Cecil Rapleeg and Secretary, Patty Dobbels. Mr. Pribble was the lucky one to be chosen our sponsor for the next two years. During this third year the students started raising money for the big event -- the senior trip. We sold concessions at football and basketball games and some accused us of trying to sell Christmas cards to old St. Nick himself. We gave a Prom and Banquet for the seniors at the Harrison Hills Cotmtry Club in Attica. The theme for the gala occasion was Moonlight and Roses. Our play Tumb1in Creek was given in the spring. It was considered a big success. Soon after we had dined and danced the seniors, they graduated. and we held a big picnic at Turkey Run to celebrate being SENIORSI This last year our class officers have been: President, Ronnie Dee, Vice-President, Patty Dobbels: Treasurer, Cecil Rapleeg and Secretary, Linda Bowlus. To earn money for our trip, we sold magazinesg we worked extra hard on this project and reached our goal of 31500. In addition to the magazine sales, we had several Saturday work days, during which we washed cars, raked leaves, washed windows, and executed many other chores too numerous to enumerate. We received our pictures from the studio. They weren't too bad, considering!!! Cmce again wedid quite well at the annual school carnival, as our candidate for queen, Lanean Renville, was elected. The football team elected Nancy Wilson as Homecoming Queen. .Terry Chambers had the honor of crowning Nancy Queen of the Homecoming, at the dance following the victory. The Queen was escorted by Jim Cole and attended by Linda Bell, Marian Taflinger, Maxine J ernagan, and Linda Bowlus. Linda Bowlus was awarded the DAR medal for citizenship. The big event of this football season was our defeating Attica 67-25. Our senior boys came through with flying colors by again defeating the Attica basketball team in the Holiday Classic. We are now looking forward to our trip and graduation. We want to sincerely thank Mr. Pribble, our understanding sponsor, for all his help and guidance. Patty Dobbels WE ALWAYS MAY BE WHAT WE MIGHT HAVE BEEN - PROCTER, LEGEND OF PROVENCE PROP!-IECY I slipped forward in my seat and peered anxiously through the window of my chartered air cruiser. There below me was a most welcome and marvelous sight. Yes, after thirty-eight years on earth, Mars looked very different. Larry Crowder, Carolyn Swadley, and Ihad met on a street in London just the other day. They sugges- ted I visit their new world, which was developing quite rapidly. After very little persuading we were off. Larry, the safest space pilot, and his assistant, Bill McIntosh, were bringing us down for a smooth landing, while Carolyn, the stewardess, helped the passengers. Breathing a sigh of relief, we started down the unloading ramp. There to meet us was the Dean of a Girls' College, Nancy Wilson and her assistant, Donna Smith. They rushed me to Terry Coffing's Cafe' where we were served by Mary Lucas and Mrs. Price, the former JoAnn Markley. We were joined here by a group of police officersg namely, Dick Taylor, Dean Hines, Jasper Wesley, and Walter Downey, who told us of their latest case. I was surprised to hear that Ronnie Dee was the attorney who handled the case, and that Patty Dobbels was making quite a name for herself, not only as his secretary but also as his wife. Later I was taken to the hospital to see Dr, Raplee's latest patient, Mrs. Johnson the former Maxine Jernagan, who was suffering with her tennis elbow. Nurse Linda Bell drew me into the children's ward where talented artist Virginia Hellwig was painting a large mural That evening I was invited to dine with LaVema Beason, who took me to see a broadway play that was making a special tour of Mars. The beautiful wardrobes, provided for the stars, Lanean Renville and Jim McLaughlin, were designed by Linda Bowlus. The next morning, hotel hostess Fay Lucas took me to see Dick Brown, the owner of the local band, and whom did we find visiting him but the President of Mars, ,T im Cole. walking out onto the street againlbumped into Red Cross Workers Mary Jane Swamer, Leland Ritter, and Robert Goodin, who insisted that I attend their Miss Mars Contest. Iwas happy to hear that Marian Taflinger had been selectai their beauty queen and Delores Brooks was chosen rtmner up. Our next stop was at the helicopter garage wherelerry Chambers gave the motor a complete check- up. While waiting for the motor check-up my eyes fell upon an unbelievable sight -- Jim Silver chauffeuring Mr. Pribble around in a solid gold helicopter -- and after all that hard luck talk too. The whole class was at the airport to see me off. Mars was wonderful, but getting back down to earth again, we the class of 1957, wish to thank the faculty for everything they have done to help us. We doff our hats to you, Mr. Pribble, for it was your wisdom and firm hand that kept us pointed in the right direction. To all we extend our sincere thanks. Marilyn Kaniewski I. Mr. Odom: Walt, what is a foul ball? Walter Downey: A dance for chickens. It looks like rain, commented the waitress, looking out the window. Yes, replied Mr. Bonebrake, looking up from his coffee, but at least it smells like coffee. Butch: Dad, can I have two bucks? Mr. McIntosh: Son, don't you know the value of a dollar now days? Butch: Sure, that's why I asked for two! Nancy: I want a man who can hold me close to him like Brando, who can kiss me like Victor Mature, who can make me shiver like Rock Hudson, and make my heart beat faster like Frank Sinatra. Can you give me all this? Shorty: I'm afraid not but I could bite you like Lassie. Larry Crowder: Some blind date! Look at her! She's fat, her nose is broken, she's knock-kneed, and she's missing two front teeth! Terry: You don't have to whisper, she's deaf too. Genius: A person who solves your problem in a way you can't understand. Mr. Swadley: fTo secretaryj I've got to call home. Send my daughter a telegram to get off the phone! A friend tells about his big brother who wanted to get married. His mother however was dead set against it, Why, you're just a baby. she said. But, Ma! the boy replied, I'm 45 years old! Just the same, replied Ma, you'l1 wait till you finish high school! Boss: Didn't I see a man leave here mad? Linda Bell: Yes, I don't know what was wrong. He ordered a hot dog and I said we were out and that he would have to wait until we made some more. Then I came into the kitchen and I accidently stepped on a dog's tail. Helet out one big ye1p!
