CLASS HISTORY One bright September day twenty sweet little tots started to Williamsburg School to be highly educated. We were all very enthusiastic to learn the A-B-C's and later on in life became the very intelligent and well mannered Seniors of 1952. With the help of Mrs. Opal Mead, our first grade teacher, we moved on in learning very rapidly. Out of the twenty that started their first year at Williamsburg only four, Romonia Alyea, Wallace Watson, Norman Robinson, and Tom Crull have remained and finished their education here. We passed through the elementary and Junior High in flying colors. We were finally initiated into high school in 1948 by the request of the Seniors of 49. We came dressed in shorts, overall jackets and knee boots. We had a grand day carrying the Senior's books and their pillows to their class rooms, eating lemons and onions, and giving the Seniors the pleasure to paddle us. The night of initiation we were taken to the woods and they scared us poor freshmen by taking us through molasses and sawdust and their own personal graveyard. Later on we were honored guest to their wiener roast. During our Freshmen year we elected our class sponsor, Edwin Craig and our class officers: President, Romonia Alyea, Vice-President, Joyce Dickerson, Secretary gl Treasurer, Dolores Tudor. During the year we made money by collecting dues, showing noon movies, and selling candy at the high school baseball games. Those who were initiated as Freshmen were as follows: Ralph Kenworthy, Jack Smith, Charles Crowder, Dolores Tudor, Gene Himelick, Romonia Alyea, Tom Crull, Joyce Dickerson, Wallie Watson, Bill Boyce, Robert Hall, Buelah Laswell, Norman Robinson, Nancy Duke, Paul Mink and Keith Bane. In 1949 we returned to Williamsburg High as Sophomores. By now the dignified Senior row didn't seem too far away. At the first of the year we elected a new sponsor, Mr. Olgesby and our class officers, President, Paul Mink, Vice-President, Wallie Watson, Secretary, Joyce Dickerson, and Treasurer, Ralph Kenworthy. This year we lost two of our group, Charles Crowder Cwho moved to Richmondj and Gene Himelick fwho went to Losantvillej. Later on in the year we lost Nancy Duke fwho got marriedl and gained two members, Mary Sue Campbell who moved here from Whitewater, and Johnny Catey who had moved from Williamsburg in our sixth grade year and then decided we were a very nice class and came back and joined us this year. We now had fifteen mem- bers to represent the Sophomore Class. During the year we got our class sweaters which was our pride and joy for the year. Our sweaters were blue with a big white W , To gain money in our treasury fund we collected dues, had a Square Dance which turned out successfully and had our never forgotten Sophomore Carnival. Janet Hall and Jack Smith represented our school as Queen and King. In 1950 we returned again as Juniors and found ourselves sitting right by the assembly win- dows which looked so far away two years ago. The Seniors got a tough break by having to sit up in front of the assembly while we Juniors had the privilege of sitting near the teacher's assembly desk! We were different from most classes by having two sponsors. We elected Angae Davis as our sponsor for the year and our class officers were as follows: President, Johnny Catey, Vice-President, Jack Smith, Secretary, Diane Strahan, and Treasurer, Joyce Dickerson. This year our parents heard the word Money mentioned by their darling children quite often. We received our flashy class rings around Christmas time which we were very anxious to receive, but our billfolds became pretty well flat rather some of our parent's billfolds did. After Christmas we sponsored our Junior Play with great success. The name of our play was Go Slow Mary' and was directed by our sponsor, Mrs. Davis. We were very unfortunate when Mrs. Davis left us to join her husband who was in the armed services. Mrs. Sells then came to replace Mrs. Davis as our sponsor. We voted on taking our trip this year and we worked extra hard to get to our goal of a few hundred dollars. Our trip was something none of us will ever forget. Everyone enjoyed them- selves very much and we all made new friends with the Losantville Seniors who went with the Seniors and Juniors of Williamsburg. We took a nine day Miller Tour Trip through the east. To make this money this year we sold Christmas cards, had a few paper drives, sold magazines twice during the year, collected dues, sponsored the Class tourney, a dance, our successful class play, and we had the Hoosier Cornhuskers. This year our class was decreased to fourteen. Ralph Kenworthy left us and moved to Greensfork, now at Hagerstown and Buelah Laswell who quit school. Later on in the year Keith Bane dropped out of our class. We gained two members, Diane Strahan who moved here from Richmond and Martha Loveall who moved to Williamsburg from Mays, Indiana. This year we also had the privilege of carrying candles for the graduates of 51 at Baccalaureate Service and some of us ushered for their commencement exercises at the school house. This year was a very busy one but it brought us many fond memories and will probably be one of our memorable years at Williams- burg High. It only seems a few, flets see, about lll years since we started to school. Time certainly does fly when you get old like 'we Juniors are . We returned again for our last time fwe hopej to Williamsburg High as dignified Seniors. Time has went very fast so far this year and we probably will dread to see May 6th come, al- though it will be nice not to return to school fwe think it will 'be anyway.j This year so farwe had our Senior pictures, taken, chose our commencement invitations and are working very hard on our Senior year book which we hope you will all enjoy reading and that it will be a book you can look back on and remember 'fus Seniors by. Later on this year we are going to put on our Senior play, which we hope will be as good as the one we put on as Juniors. We chose as our sponsor for the year, Mrs. Maynard and our class officers as follows: President, Wallie wfatson, Vice President, Jack Smith, Secretary, Dolores Tudor, and Treasurer, Romonia Alyea, This about ends the history of the class of '52 in high school at Williamsburg. We want to thank Mrs. Maynard for being our sponsor this year and helping us publish this year book of 52.
