Even the high school graduate who does not go to college or to a specialized trade school will be at a distinct disadvantage. The returning servicemen have been promis- ed first chance at the better johs. Whether or not you were more capable of handling the work to begin with will make little difference, you will be the underdog. My advice to you undergraduates is te stay in school as long as you can. No matter what it is you want to do, you can do it if youlre willing to work for it. But the man or woman in the post-war world who will get where he's going quickest will be the person who has a complete education and a fair start. If you want to make the new. world a better place in which to live, find your life's work and then go to school with the deter- mination to learn it-completely and thor- oughly. One of the best ways I know of to learn is to follow the Scholarls Creed : I will blot out of my life the failures that come through wasted hours and write into it the achievements that come of time well spent. I will keep life's record clean, a story of knowledge gained and of service given. HI will keep always in mind the high goal of our democracy and Will hold my hand to its task. I will work hard, hope high, and live up to the best that is in me.
