Miss WOODBURY l l EDUCATION AND THE PEACE Today, with America on the verge of a de- cisive victory in the European War and driv- ing unrelentingly forward in the Pacific, the American public is faced with the tremen- dous task of preserving the peace that so many of our boys have fought and bled and died for. The peace project cannot be car- ried out satisfactorily by an illiterate public. Education will be one of the most import- ant factors in forming, and in preserving, a just and lasting peace. There will be a tremendous construction project to be carried on after the warg nevertheless, many plants are alreadv dropping off thousands of men in prepara- tion for the return of peace-time production. Many of the servicemen, with the specialn ized training they have received in the arm- ed forces, will be applying for and will be fully equipped to occupy the better posit- ions. What chance will a person who left school to do war work stand against
