8 TIIE MESSALONSKEE RIPPLE for a friend, what better companion coulrl we have than a good book? Who hath a book Has friends at hand And gold and year At his commandg And rich estates, If he but look, Are held by him Who hath a book. Recently in our Senior English classes we discussed books of all types. We found that nearly all of us liked to read. Then 21 list of the best books which we had read or in which we were interested was made out Fach member of the class was 10 quncd to choosc his next book report fiom this list In this vnu we had a chance to read a good book which had been read and recommended by one of our own class- mates. I would like to suggest that this plan be continued in the English classes. The pupil's interest in books could be fur- ther increased if, from time to time, stu- dents gave reports about recent best-sellers. By reading worthwhile books, one is given a priceless gift-the highest thoughts and ideals of the writers of any period. My library Was dukedom large enough.
