As for the season they finished with an 8-7 record. Seniors Albert Tuttle, high jump, and Danny Hoard, 440, and juniors Jackie Roberts, triple jump, and Carl Siler, 880, did exception- ally well at the sectionals. At the regional tournament Carl Siler and Danny Hoard qualified for state competition. There Hoard finished 4th, and Siler 8th in their events. A.W.H.S. record was set by Danny Hoard with an outstanding time of 49.5 in the 440. In awards day assembly Siler and Hoard received special trophies for their per- formances in the State Tournament. Hal Goodwin swings high. ti Bob Sutton, No. 1 seed, shows winning form. Boys Capture The Boy's Tennis Team had a very good season ending with a 10-2 record. Bob Sutton, a junior, played the number 1 seed. A sopho- more, Doug Peeler, 16-1 for the entire season, was undefeated in singles play losing only to a Greensboro netter, who continued to become state champion. The team went into the tour- nament highly favored to win the champion- ship, as they had won the conference title. They lost a close match to West Forsyth in the finals to place second. Other team members were senior Doug VVhite, juniors David Earnhardt, Tom Register and Jay Coble, and sophomore Hal Goodwin. All exhibited tremendous effort and skill. Doug Peeler charges the net.
