omecoming 1975 was presented as a tribute to the silver anniversary of Williams High School. The week prior to the game was school spirit week. Thursday evening, Octo- ber 30, the annual Home- coming Show was pre- sented. At the end of the concert, the new Home- coming queen, Susan Calla- han, was crowned. Saturday night Nov- ember l began with a pre- game parade of floats and club sponsors around the football track. Halftime featured the Homecoming court and football spon- sors forming a circle of silver on the football field. Homecoming was beautiful except for football game which the Bulldogs lost to Parkland.

his is the year of the 23rd Olympiad. The winter games are to be held in Austria, but the subject at hand is the games of the Bulldogs held here in Burlington fifty years ago, twenty- five years ago, and the present. Ac- cording to the first Doe-Wah-Jack of 1924, the Burl- ington high school athletes played in a clean, un- tarnished and sportsmanlike manner. This attribut- ed to their winning football season, resulting in a 6-2-1 record. Although played in the same manner, the basketball team did not fare as well, finishing 5-8. The girls basketball team, in their midi-length skirts and blouses, could not manipulate as well. However, they did chalk up 2 wins to their 5 losses. The participation of the boys on the tennis team marked a mediocre season of 3 wins to tie their 3 loss- es. In the spring, the baseball team was looking to an interesting and successful season, while the track team was hoping for a chance at State Champion- ship honors. Twenty-five years ago, in 1951, the first Williams High School football team ended up 5-5-3 overall. There were 3 outstanding players, two of which join- ed other high school athletes in the Optimist Bowl, and one, who was honored all-state and all-southern, captained his team at the Northern Shrine Bowl. Basketball Qboys only this timel wound up an im- pressive season with a winning record of 11-3. Base- ball and Golf were anticipating good seasons. As for boys tennis, a half and half record was predicted. One of our present faculty members, Mr. Harvey Sharpe, was active in this athletic year, and attrib- uted to many outstanding maneuvers in the defeat of opponents. As for the present, the 25th year of Williams High School completed a sport to its entirety. Two sports added to our athletic curriculum, Cross Country and Girls' tennis, are thus far undefeated and have already gained titles. The football team, however, is not gaining favorable results. Boyfs basketball expects an average season, while the girls say a maybe season, hopefully better than that of '24. Baseball, boys' tennis, and girls' and boys' track all foresee victorious seasons. We will continue to struggle for athletic achieve- ment greater than generations before us no matter how unsuccessful we may be. The progress of cheers goes as follows - the tops of 1924 was: Ra, Ra, Re, Ra, Ra, Ro, Burlington, Burlington Ho, Ho, Ho. 1950 Black and Gold, Black and Gold, ain't we bold, ain't we bold. 1
