Williams High School, our search for knowledge requires fhe largesf segmenf of our lime and fhe greafesf amounf of our energy. ln fhe conquesf for frufh. we probe beneafh fhe surfaces of many academic fields, and our search is facil- ifafed by fhe books fhaf virlually encompass our lives. Therefore, in an age when we fake fhe prinfecl page for granfed, if is appropriafe fhaf fhe symbol for fhe academic secfion of our yearbook should be fhe scroll-originally a handwriH'en manuscripf offen wound on a core of wood exfending from eifher end fo form a shapely scroll. For fhe sfudenf in Alexandria, Egypf, home of fhe world's besf ancienf library, research was difficulf. He found his maferial labeled and sfored on library shelves like rolls of wall paper. Since fhe manu- scripfs were noi' alphabefized, 'rhe rolls mosf in demand were placed on fop of 1-he pile, and regardless of when he needed fo begin his sfudy, he had fo unwind each scroll and open fhe book af ifs beginning.
