The rising sun of youth . . The setting sun of old age, But in between for the college girl There are days-ordinary, routine, Sometimes with run-through-fields happiness Or confined loneliness, Study, study-and out of it all, Somehow an individual is molded And finds herself to be more than More than a name-but A woman and a self. a number, -Barbara Cook '70

Our President Dr. RANDALL B. C U TLI P '6Today I said 'hello' to three freshmen who didn't say 'hello' back. I want this to stop immediately. With these words, the new Freshman Class was introduced to the President of William Woods College and they knew where they stood with him. Every student is a person, every girl an individual to be recognized Dr. Cutlip is also a very real person to be recognized by all of his contacts. In the words of Dr. Shipp, After six years of knowing him, I say he is the greatest man I have ever worked with. This statement is not unfounded. President Cutlip has done more for the improvement, growth, and de- velopment of William Woods College than any other president in its history. Since his installation in 1960, the enrollment has increased by 300 or more students, and the transition from a junior college to a four-year baccalaureate program was made. Forty percent of the college staff now have Ph.D.s, whereas there were none when he came into office. Through his leadership, William Woods has been accredited by every major accrediting organization in the United States. Because of financial stability of the col- lege, it has physically expanded under a contin building plan that he has kept active with his sup- port and ambition. More important, the buildings have been built with a dedication to imaginative and exciting teaching. In private, DL Cutlip is not a man of hobbiesf' Dr. Shipp described Dr. Cut1ip's work saying, 6'For him the president's position combines both work and relaxation. He is, without a doubt, the most ded- icated man I know. William Woods is not his job, it is his life. We respect our President as a dynamic, yet very human individual, and THEREFORE, DEDICATE THE BOOK OF HIS SCHOOL, WOODS ECHOES OF 1968, TO HIM WITH TRUE ADMIRATION.
