Lite'rmy Editor LOUISE BOAZ Oh William Woods, above 77th Hallj are soaring, Early in September every year hundreds of girls come through the gates of William Woods for the fast time. Each girl is about to enter another and important phase of her life. Each one is on the threshhold of her new home. Lying before her are the stately buildings in which she will make friends, learn, and play: the beautiful Senior dorms, Nmth and South Jones, Edwards, the Stables, the wonderful new library, and last but cev- tainly not least, the hhAchh building. Here they are just as you remember them. BETTY D'H BuscH Pam 9 7726 Red Campus April 28th was the long awaited day for the dedication of our new library . . . a glorious day we seniors had been looking forward to for two years. The construction of this beautiful, as well as efficient, build ing is proof that William Woods College is a progressive institution that provides the best for its students. This is where we learned from books. The excellently equipped chemistry and biology labs, the homey atmosphere of the practical Home Economics Department, the Art Department, as well as the various other class rooms and ofhces, are located in our threezstory academic building. This is where we learned from our teachers. The chapel is the place we assembled for millions of things: plays, convocations, college nights, class meetings, recitals, and just for fun. This is where we absorbed those things never to be gotten from a book. Page 10 M m R O H D U A Y N A L U D gagwuw WW THE ACADEMIC BUILDING MCBRIDE GYMNASIUM One of the many vocational trairy ing courses offered to William Woods students is radio. The fully equipped hradio hut is a joy for every radio major because everything she will ever need can be found in the two studios, the control room, and the observation room. Each day the radio students present various types of radio programs over station KWWC. Pagt 12 STABLES ? Horseback riding is one of the sports activities that is offered at William Woods. The fireproof stable provides box stalls for twenty horses. Although : the college provides horses for the 1 classes, many of the girls bring their own horses and keep them in the stables. Behind the stables is a large riding ring t Where the classes are held 1'11 the fall and spring. During the winter the classes are held inside the stables. t Page I 3 BARTLEY HALL Bartley, Harmon, and Atkinson, the big three on White Campus, have served us seniors well. W611 never forget the parties and hhjelly datesh down in Harmon Rec Room, or the Atkinson Tea Room where we invariably spent too much money on food. The winter dragged out for so long we thought we,d never get out on the Bartley Hall sundeck! N0, our memory of William Woods College would hardly be complete without . . . hHARMON, and BARTLEY and ATKINSON as well. . . W Page 14 Page 15 ATKINSON HALL HARMON HALL P jumbr EDWARDS HALL JONES Much fun is had in the junior dorms because of the concentrar tion of so many girls in one place. The fact that Jones and Edwards are separated only by a hallway 0n the second and third floors makes it easy for the girls to Visit with one another. Page I 7 NORTH JONES HALL North Jones, the newest rex modeled dorm on campus, is conr nected to Jones by way of the parlors; however, this does not keep the North Jones girls from becoming well acquainted with their fellow juniors in Jones and Edwards. HThe voices of 77le $augkigry as before. Will any of y0u Juniors ever forget Hell Dayls rude awakening or the after effects . . . the Seniorsl stony faces, the Westminster boys laughing at you in your humiliation . . . the buttom'ng you had to do . . . or the earring in your nose? That day, how ever, did serve the purpose of uniting the two Classes into one of the closest juniorzSenior bonds that William Woods has ever seen. We Seniors loved having you juniors visit us and inviting us to your rooms. Some of us didnt see as much of our little sisters as we would have liked to see them, but we loved you all. It has been a lot of fun being big sisters, declaring our owrt stop day, and most of all working two years to enjoy our llSem'or Privileges?a The friendships welve made here, the lessons welve learned both in and out of class, and the grand way of life that William Woods has taught us will never be forgotten. And when it comes to spirit you can really hear it Through all the Junior halls. We will stand together and be true forever; We're really on the ball. 925166715 Page 48 Queen? The queens of 1951 are truly deserving of their crowns. Few will forget the memorable evening of the Coronation, the night of the Woods Echoes Style Show. An air of sophistication mixed with the twinkle in her eye and the cheerfulness of her smile won Barbara Gabler the title of Beauty Queen. We shall never forget the grace with which she carries herself and the loveliness of her crowning glory . . . her long brown hair. Barbls attractiveness was not something put on just for the moment, because with her ability to wear clothes very well she was always strikingly goodtlooking. Her beauty attendants were Audree Anderson and Jackie Ford. Simply bubbling with the sweetest personality was our Popularity Queen,Jo Anne Thomas. Fondly known as llSeyrnour, Jo Anne has been a source of fun and laughter with all of her humorous antics. At the same time she has been a dear friend to us all with her sincerity and kindness. Our little gal from Arkansas, Sharis Smith, came forth this year wearing two crowns! Because of her friendly Southern charm, she was voted Ideal Girl; and because she has initiative and perseverance to go with that charm, her becoming Service Queen was a natural folloqup. Nancy Romine, with her leadership quality, her musical talent, her artistic ability with the easel and brush, and above all her winning personality, was voted Ideal Girl, too. Along with all of these grand traits, Nancy has a sense of humor which puts the finishing touches on her well rounded character. She truly has everything that an ideal girl should have. Ordith Harris, our Town Queen for 1951, well deserved her title. No job was too hard for Ordith to undertake as long as it was for the good of William Woods College. The secret of her success, however, is the warm smile and kindly word she has for each and every one of us.
