Through his per- sonal testimony, musical ability and humor- ous anecdotes, he stimulated a great deal of thought in the area of Christian separa- tion. Data on the heat in music and regres- sion in quality of movies motivated many to rethink their positions. Lewis johnson discussed the problems of living the spiritual life. At the Spring Spiritual Life Conference, Dr. S. Lewis Johnson, lr., shared key concepts out of the Gospels for the walk of the Christian. He stressed looking unto jesus for a life of worship and service. After the conference it was evident that the messages had spoken definitely to many of the students. Dr. johnson met with local pastors for discussions on problems in expository preaching. 7 W.- A .x. Many of DBC's faithful supporters enjoyed an excellent meal as well as fine service at this year's banquet. One of the social highlights for the friends of the College is the annual Stewardship Cabinet Banquet conducted on the campus. The Cabinet is composed of individuals who faithfully contribute to the students' education by prayer and finances. This annual dinner is a way in which the College expresses its appreciation for the support given by the Cabinet members. An Oriental theme was featured this year both in the menu and decora- tions. Students serving as waitresses and waiters attired in authentic japanese dress added to the atmosphere of the occasion. The program included students and alumni relating what the College has meant to them, special music, and a Bible message by Mr. E. L. larman, development consultant of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. 28 tions for serving at the banquet. Montaigne And all things, whatever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Matthew 21:22 HIPR 5' ING l 60V RN N6 L'0l!lVC l Why go to college? Why choose a Bible college? Why specifically Detroit Bible College? These are questions not unfamiliar to many a freshman midway through his first semester, some seniors midway through their last semester are still searching. Many find no satisfying answer to the first question after starting, and leave: some to return later to a college, some never to return. But for those who stay in college, the second question still remains. And for several, no satisfying answer is found and they, too, leave: a few to go to a secular campus, a few never to return to school at all. And yet, some stay. For these is left the third question. Why, indeed, specifically Detroit Bible College? Here again, we find those who don't find a satisfying answer and eventually leave. But again, some do stay. For many of these, convenience of location is critical. For others,a family background in the same institution is strategic. For still others, perhaps coinci- dent with some of the preceding reasons is also an abiding sense of a deep con- viction that God wants me at DBC. Of such is the mainstream of the DBC student body: an individual who feels the real need of broad academic prepara- tion beyond high school to cope with the complexities of his society, an indivi- dual who wants that academic preparation based on, centered around, and per- meated by the Word of God, and an individual convinced that God has raised up this institution in this community specifically to provide that Christ-centered academic preparation that he seeks. God has not changed. He is the same God who led Abraham's servant to Rebecca for Isaac, the same God who led Paul to Macedonia through a dream, and is indeed the same yesterday, today, and forever tHeb. 13:83. This being the case, where are to be found, in order, the answers to the three opening ques- tions? WHO has them? Yours in lesus Christ, Gerald D. Soderberg President DBC Student Association 58 Members of the Student Council gather regularly to discuss business brought before the Student Government. Peggy Moffitt expresses her opinion on the matter. jerry Soderberg leads the student body in their meeting. We who go to Wayne State University every week are tested in our beliefs and are sometimes forced to defend our faith in the Bible and God to a skeptical student. With over 40,000 students at Wayne, our field of service is unlimited. There are several methods of evangelism which we use at Wayne. The first method is a religious survey, directed to college students, which leads into an opportunity for the presen- tation of the gospel. The second is one of pass- ing out tracts to the majority of students who are contacted during the day and also talking to those who seem interested in the message of the tract. The third is called friendship evange- lism. This method works very well with the foreign students where you make friends with the person and during the process of making friends you have virtually an unlimited opportuni- ty to witness, especially in your own life and actions, which they will watch carefully. ln this case your actions will speak louder than your words. l 1 What now Dr. Shaw? The Archaeological Association was organized this year for the purpose of learning the methods of excavating and to contribute some useful data to the field of archaeology. Dr. Charles H. Shaw, an archaeologist with many years of experience in the Holy Land, is the leader of the Association and overseer of the excavation. The Association began excavating in September in search for the remains of Fort Sinclair, a British fort built in 1763, in St. Clair, Michigan. The fort was in exist- ence for about twenty-five years and it was the summer home for Lieutenant Patrick Sinclair, who was in charge of British shipping on the Great Lakes. lean Baptiste de Sable, the founder of pre- sent day Chicago, was also at Fort Sinclair for a long period before he went west. The goal is that all artifacts will be given to the City of St. Clair upon completion of the study and future plans of rebuilding the fort. DHRO 7 CIW RESTU MISSION Three and a half years ago, a man had a vision of seeing inner-city boys and girls coming to a saving knowledge of jesus Christ through Child Evangelism at the Detroit City Rescue Mission. In the three and a half years since, thousands have accepted Christ as their own personal Saviour. Originally Child Evangelism met once a week with approximately five students from DBC helping in the programs. Last year with over ten active DBC students, they saw over fifty first time decisions for Christ in just one week. God has greatly blessed and used this ministry as an outreach to the boys and girls in the inner city. The greatest proof of His working is the love for them which He has given to those who have worked with them. The girl pictured above not only accepted Christ as her own personal Saviour at Child Evangelism but later led two of her friends to accept Him as well. She also directed another one of her friends to one of the DBC students to accept Christ. Diane Wisner teaches a new Christmas song to the boys and girls. Linda Miller helps collect the hymn books and Bibles before Bible Club begins. l john Boney discusses WMF with the student body. WORlD MISSION The purpose of the World Mission Fellowship is to influence Detroit Bible College students in the area of missions. WMF attempted to meet this challenge by promoting interest and raising financial support for the Urbana Missionary Con- ference in Urbana, Illinois. Finances were raised by projects such as a car wash, bake sale, candied-apple sale, and donations. The high- light was the Urbana Work Day in Archbold, Ohio, as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Lantz. Ten students spent an enjoyable weekend clean- ing houses and garages, raking leaves, stringing Christmas lights, washing windows, addressing Christmas cards, waxing floors, moving cabinets, fellowshipping, and eating the fine food prepared by Mrs. Lantz. The working and leading of the Lord can be seen from the exciting fact that these ten students raised S265 from the generous- hearted people of Archbold. WMF also used these projects to raise funds for the support of DBC students who were engaged in SummerMissionary Work around the state. Ffll0W5fllP These were some of the goodies sold to raise funds for the Summer Missionaries. lf' 69 UR AM4 WORK DAY jo Ann Lantz rides like a spare tire to Urbana Work Day. To kick it off to a great start, Coach Wielhouwer and Mr. Shuster decided to challenge each other to a mile foot-race around D.B.C. Though Mr. Shuster won, the trophies were the biggest blisters you ever saw. Enthusiastic fans cheered them on! Philippians 3113 Therefore let us go onmadvancing steadily toward the completeness and perfection that belongs to spiritual maturity... Hebrews 621 ...So will I watch over them to build and to plant... jeremiah 31128 v4lV7lC'l 14 TIIVG TRU DEVHO MHV7 Often, when we think of development our thoughts are confined to buildings and land. However, there is another type of development which is perhaps even more important. This is the development of people to help to meet the needs of a lost and dying world. As we look around the Detroit area alone, we also should be moved with compassion. As we view our training at DBC as a beginning to a life-long ministry and realize our tremendous responsibility to the world around us, we gain our perspective. Remember, DBC is not a group of buildings. We are DBC. l l 106 Life will take on a new dimension for those of you who are graduating from DBC. For the past four years it has been your privilege to study the Word of God and to prepare yourself to serve the Lord. You have learned many lessons both in and out of the classroom. Now you have the opportunity to put into practice the things you have learned. Your life and the lives of those around you will be affected by your experience. lt is my sincere prayer that God will send you forth toaccomplish His will in a definite way. The road ahead will not be an easy one as we are living in difficult days. All around you will see the results of unrest, crime, war, hatred and rebellion. lt will be necessary for you to be equipped with the whole armor of God and to be proficient in handling the Word of God. You should go forth with a spirit of optimism because the promise from Scripture is that God always leads us in triumph in Christ tll Cor. 23145. As you leave DBC you can expect the prayers and interest of the faculty, staff, and your fellow students to go with you. May the Lord of Hosts protect and guide you in your life for Him.
