T OH NSVILLE. PENNSYLVANIA 1 DEDHCATHUN We, the class of 1956, dedicate this yearbook to our parents, in deepest grati- tude for their sacrifices and devotion. Wlien we were little children, our parents guided us by discipline and love, trying to point our lives in directions which would later make us happy citizens of an adult world. As we grew up, our parents worked and sacrificed so that we might graduate from high school, fully equipped to take our places in society. Now the time has come for us to repay our parents for the love and patience which they have given so willingly in the past. As we step out into the world, we will strive to become all that our mothers and fathers have wanted us to be. .'.'.'y1. .13-.: 2:552- I:-2? -.. Q' age.. g.'.x .-.-. 4. !'...- -z : . Not in picture: Eileen Jamison, Russell Gearhart About five years ago, the school boards of three school districts-Ivyland, Upper Southampton, and Warminster-recognized the need for greater high school facilities to meet the requirements of the ever-growing population in this area. They merged to form the Centennial joint School Board which carefully studied the situation, then laid the plans for William Tennent High School. We owe a great deal to these men and women, who are elected to the school board by the people of their districts, and who serve without pay to operate and establish policies for our schools. On May 8, 1952, the three individual school boards appointed five members to a Centennial joint School Board Author- ity: one member from Ivyland, two from Upper Southampton, and two from Wair- minster. The Authority was formed to assist the School Board in financing the new building W William Tennent High School. Seated: Frank Gallagher, Irvin Slight, Chairman: Charles Krewson. Standing: E. Earle Sinkler, Peter Platten, Counsel. Missing: William Rahill. wnusvustsx Left to right: Administratorg Mr. Claude W. Lodge, Admmrstrative Assistantg Dr. Superintendent of Schools, Mr. W. Students who have successfully completed twelve years of educational require- ments as prescribed by the School Board receive their diplomas and leave our local schools to take up other work or to further their education. Each year, we, as members of the staff, feel we are about to lose close contact with many friends. We know that you should leave, but always feel bad to see you go. We all become part of each other and become inter-related in our activities, and it always seems that part of us goes with you while you leave part of yourselves here with us. You represent the first graduatrng class of William Tennent High School and as such wrll always haxe that distinction To you we extend our best wishes for success and good fortune We pray you will all live good lives and fruitful ones We hope you will all be good citizens in this country that, by its very strength has given you your education and by your use of this education will retain its strength Good luck and best wishes THE STAFF ff' v D .1 4,0 g 1- ..0lf,' u. 15- u ,:.. s. We couple the memories of one with the visions of the other. For the future-we appraise ourselves and take stock of those qualities which make us what we are. We recognize our short comings, but set our sights in life high enough to challenge, yet not so high as to oe out of reach. We will use our faith in God and be- lief in self to turn the discouragements and defeats that enter every life into stepping stones to success. For the past-we congratulate our parents and teachers for their patience, good humor, and inspiration that provided the incentive for our twelve years of schooling. We feel privileged to be the first graduating class of William Tennent High School and hope that our short stay has made a good beginning for The William Tennent High School Story. Our last year of high school was full of busy exciting days and brought many experiences which this book will keep alive in years to come. of QF Qgr- Q .W- MIl.l5REl3 ELLEN BEAR HMILLIEU FFA 43 Tri-Hi-Y 3. 43 Chorus 1, 23 Srhool Paper 3, 4.
