President, discuss student government. June, 1966; another milestone in the life of every person at Hart. This has been a re- warding school year for many, directly proportional to the contribution of the individual. To you members of our graduating class, our thanks and congratulations for the leader- ship you have given, for the advances in all areas that you have brought about. Your absence will be most noticeable. To those who will return in September, do so with a real purpose — to lead and build in all facets of school life. To all of us from all of us — it has been a year to remember. 10 Gene G. Hartley Principal Dr. Gerald Hedden Assistant Superintendent Curriculum Dr. Mel Ross Assistant Superintendent Business Mr. James Hoffner, Superintendent We are indeed fortunate to have a capable board and an able administration dedicated to the cause of education in this period of rapid growth and development in our school system. Many years ' ago, a wise, old Japanese philosopher once said: Education is sometimes painful, But pain makes man think. Thought makes man wise. And wisdom makes life endurable. Bill Atkinson, This year ' s 1965-66 football squad finished with a record of two wins and seven losses. It was a season of many disappointing moments to the student body, parents, and community. It may have been disappointing to these supporters, but it was even more disappointing to the boys who play the game. Everyone likes a winner, but it shows what you ' ve really got when you keep coming back with 100 percent in a losing season. We ' ve all experienced winning at one time or another, and know what a great feeling it is, but there ' s more to it than just winning. Football is a sport that takes unlimited guts and desire, not only in the Friday night gomes, but even more so in practice. In every week of prac- tice there is more sweat, blood, and energy taken from these athletes than most people realize. It ' s a special caliber of person who will sacrifice himself, mind and body, for a cause that may mean nothing to the people for whom he is fighting. To this special individual, the personal satisfaction of knocking people down, drawing blood and tears from your opponent, and just knowing you ' ve defeated him mentally and physically is the greatest feeling that he, as an ath- lete, can possibly possess. Those boys who suited up for Hart High ' s grid team have experienced this great feeling of football. This feeling still burns in the hearts and soul of these athletes, and next year they will return with an even greater desire to win and achieve, again, that feeling of an athlete. Don ' t have pity for Hart High ' s football team, for it is they, the players themselves, who have pity for you. It is they that possess the unmatched feeling of a football player an ATHLETEIII Team Captain, Tom Rock 114 (mi M Goici ' o, Oitl ilin Moiikoll, The 1965 football team ' s choice for Sweetheart was Ellen Williams. The ' 65 team was ger to compete. They were smaller than the teams they met, but what they lacked in size and speed they made up for in desire. They seemed to enjoy body contact and the learning experi- ence they gained. We had fine leaders in Woody Heselius and Frank Benz. Those who performed well on offense were Steve Bussberg, Rick Con- ners, Frank Benz, Richard Acosta, Woody Hese- lius, Don Jackson, Mike Edwards and Steve Bo- shae. The team, consisting mostly of sophomores and juniors, decided early in the season to be an above average one. Through their desire and all-around attitude, many personal and school records were set. The League score for the team of three wins and three losses is a school record. By placing 4th in the Simi Invitational and 3rd in the Inter- Valley League tournament, two more records were set. The Varsity had a 5-7 dual meet rec- ord. The Junior Varsity ' s record of 6-5 was the first winning season that a Hart J. V. wrestling team has had. In the Frontier League, Varsity ' s 3rd place finish and Junior Varsity ' s 4th ore the highest plocings Hart has attained, and more points were received by the teams than ever before. Tom Rock was the first Hart wrestler to ever qualify for the C.I.F. Finals, which he did by winning in the Semi-Finals, another Hart first. Tom holds the best season ' s score record at Hart, which is 20-5; he also was rated one of the top 16 wrestlers at C.I.F. With only 5 men graduating from the team.
