In Memoriam f Elwood M. Sjwigle jzme 2, 1916-Azzgzm' 21, 1966 Mr. -Sprigle died August 21, the acknowledged dean of Pennsylvania public school band directors. He was a man with great creative talent, zeal for perfection, organiza- tional ability and showmanship. He was a man with hosts of friends, clotting alumni, and appreciative students who had pursued successful musical careers with the scholar- ships he secured for them. He was a master music teacher. He needs no monument because he created his own during the twenty-plus years his burnt-orange and blue bands marched across the white striped green of sunlit stadiums in Baltimore, Philadelphia and York, struttecl in parades in York and New York's Thanksgiving Day parade, harmonized for parties and dances, or entertained at as- semblies and annual Frolic shows, and he always led us through Old York High. The thrill and the pleasure he brought to us are unforgettable. He was truly York High's Music Man. Because he passed our way, there will always be the sound of music in these halls.

It is with sincere appreciation and gratitude that I am able to serve the William Penn faculty and stu- dent body in an administrative capacity. I hope that every student, past, present, and future, realizes that William Penn is one of the finest institutions of learning in the Commonwealth. One of the many outstanding features of William Penn is its diversi- fied, individualized programs of instruction. The type of education received at William Penn should assist each student in becoming a worthy contributor to our democratic way of life. Assistant Principal wages to the ew Generation For the past three years it has been my pleasure to know and counsel many of you. As you prepare to leave William Penn and follow your various en- deavors in life, may I offer for your contemplation one of my favorite sayings: I expect to go through life but once. If, there- fore, there is any kindness or any good thing that I can do for my fellow being, let me do it now, for I shall not pass this way again. -William C. Gunnett. gc Administrative Assistant u.
