Trattner St nd ng Left to Right Helen Elsenhart Grace Duff Lo cks Grace A Cu ra Florence C Mentz HISTORY and the social studies generally are in their widest sense the narrative of mans existence on this planet Today the world is ours but it is unimportant for us to keep the long range picture before us, and recognize that our present period of action 1S only an integral part of one great continuous story The Social Studies Department alms to develop a habit of discrimination regarding current ISSUES and problems that will contmue throughout life such as a responsibility to citizenship a better understanding of democratic institutions and to promote critical and analytical thinking which is an important goal in all teaching. We are giving every student in Social Studies an opportunity to become acquainted with world problems and people by making spe- cific classroom assignments and study of these problems thus aiming to make our courses practical by the wide use of supple- mentary material in the classrooms.
