Mason Girls Get Involved In Sports The field of sports has been more for boys in the past, at least in the participation end. Girls are showing more en- thusiasm by getting involved. The major sports are gaining in popularity for girls? said Mrs. Judy Schott, girls physical education teacher at William Mason High School. Mrs. Schott and Mrs. Marianna Wright, girls Phs. Ed. teacher at Little Miami High School are working together :ihOping other coaches in thetarea will join with us to form a tri county league next year, said Mrs. Schott. 'tlts taken years to get the program started, getting the girls in- volved, she said. HPeople will be seeing more girls in sports, basketball, volleyball, field hockey and softball. Field hockey is growing in popularity. The William Mason High A School girls basketball teams, varsity and reserve are part of the GAA lGirISe Athletic Associationl program. Girls grade nine through twelve are eligible for membership. Requirements include at- tendance at meetings, dues and participation. The reserve team is boasting a 5-1 season with two games to go, Little Miami and Fenwick. Julie Hill has been high scorer for the team with an average of five points a game. The varsity stands at 3-3, Cheryle Kennedy has been high point gal averaging seven points a game. Rules for the weaker sex vary little from the male rules. Girls play five-man basketball and run full court. Periods are the same with more time for time- out. Twenty girls make up the squad With ten girls on each team.
