Then came pads, drills, practice --- practice, and Scrimmages. Football became a way of life. The season opened September 10 with Lockland. It was a time for no mistakes. Victory-bound the mighty Comets gained 2, 031 yards rushing and 462 yards passing for a total of 2493 yards gained. Two boys deserving some recognition are Gary Miller and Jerry Spaeth. KW Commencement and baccalauxeate exer- cises were held at William Mason High School on May 28 at 8 p.mg At that time 136 seniors received their diplomas as members of the 1972 graduating class. The event was marked by speeches from Valedictorian Diane McClung and Salutatorian Marc 1a Walker. Class Pres ident Mike Gibson 164 presented the Class History and Kathi Meyer shared Senior Thoughts at Commencement. Rev. Arthur Patterson, minister of the First Baptist Church delivered the baccalaureate address. The ceremonies concluded with the presentation of diplomas and the traditional candle lighting ceremony. Here We are, for the last time, a whole, Considered now as a class But once we're out, it's finished- This will just be a time of the past. Silently now, we look at each other And remember the fun that we've had. We'll laugh when we think about good times, But cry when remembering the sad. We leave our footprints in the sands of time But they'll soon be washed away; We'll just become commonpeople again- We've had our glory day. We're totally free from here on out Independent and on our own. We'll learn the lessons that Life will teach As others before us have done. Our lives are just beginning now The road of life's straight ahead. The last minute instructions are given There's nothing left to be said. It was our hope from the beginning that each of you would have a book at which you could look in future years and recall the happy memories of your high school days. We have spent study halls, afternoons, evenings, and even holidays putting this book together---now we present it to you so that you might always remember the 1971-72 school year at William Mason High. When we began this book, we had very little experience at this type of work. We have been very fortunate to have so meny people be of such great help. We would particularly like to thank Principal Lee 1. Carey for his special co-operation and encouragement; June Hill for her dependable photo services; Mr. Maurice Childs and Inter-Collegiate Press, Inc. for their help in all facets of our book; the custodial staff for puttingupwithus during the seemingly interminable work sessions; the junior yearbook staff for their valuable help; and Mrs. Gwen Goode for her invaluable assistance and patience.
