Crookshank. 3 ANNUAL QUEEN AND COURT The Queen-Judy Snodgrass Kathy Chambers Barbara Harris Betty Kreger Joyce Neal This year for the first time the annual staff sponsored an annual queen contest in connection with their sub¬ scription sales. Each girl represents the class by whom she was selected to run for annual queen - Judy was from the junior class, Kathy from the freshman class, Barbara from the senior class, Betty from the sophomore class, and Joyce from the eighth grade. Gift to the queen was a copy of the 1957 MIDGET, 4 AND ADMINISTRATION Mr. C, L. RAMSEY, Principal A.B. William and Mary College M.A. William and Mary College Mr. Ramsey is from Rocky Moimt, Virgin¬ ia. He has completed course requirements for the Doctor's Degree at the University of Virginia. He has served as principal and si ervisor of schools in Franklin and Bed¬ ford counties. Mr. E.B, STANLEY, Superintendent of Schools A.B. Emory and Henry College M.A. George Peabody College Mr. Stanley has taught fourteen years in the school system of Dickenson county and was principal of Ervinton High School for ten years. He was principal and si erintendent of schools in Grayson coimty. He also served as clerk of the Dickenson County Court for ten years. Not pictured is the Central School Board. Highlights for the Band this year have been their trip to Florida in August, 1956, the Band Dance, and participation in several concerts and contests. One of these contests was the Bristol Band Festival where they received a I rating. The Band also received a trophy for being the only band to receive a I rating for five years. They participated in the State Band Festival and several members went to All State Band. The Band gave a Christmas con¬ cert and a Spring concert. Parades in which they marched were the Christmas Parade and the To¬ bacco Festival Parade. Student Director Gail Totten leads the woodwind sect¬ ion. It functions as a service club, and has carried out several major proj¬ ects this year. Among these were providing Christmas food baskets for needy families, fi¬ nanced by a basketball game be¬ tween the club members and the high school faculty; road patrol in the morning before school, and raising the flag; and the annual Key Club dance, profits of which helped send delegates to the state convention. STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council, com¬ posed of club and class officers, devotes most of its time to prob¬ lems that may arise in clubs and classes. However they did carry out some extra projects. One of these was sponsoring a mock election (see picture below). Another was a slave auction in which club members were auctioned to the students for a day of servant -hood. A project which was considered of great importance was the starting of a series of open houses for the stu¬ dents of William King.
