Tanner was appoinred Academic Dean ro replace Dr. Gordon lsingsley, who ascended ro rhe Presidency. Dean Tanner was anxious ro come ro William Jewell TO become a parr of irs fine academic as well as exfra- curricular program, 'lWilliam Jewell is a highly respecred school in rhe liberal arrs circles, rhe Dean said 'lThe srudenfs fend ro be good srudenrs, which creares an inreresring place for rhe reachers ro reach. Dean Tanner brings TO William Jewell a grear deal of experience and hopes ro offer fresh perspecrives because of his lsnowledge of how rhings are done in orher places, 'll hope fo conrribure posirively TO rhe goal of excellence in fhe reaching-learning process here ar Jewell, he said, As rhe Academic Dean of rhe College, his responsibil- iries are numerous and varied. l-le is accounrable for rhe enrire academic program, which includes rhe curriculum, rhe advising program, rhe academic policies, as well as rhe recruiring of faculry. I-le also supervises rhe overseas programs, rhe library, and rhe regisrrar's office. Alrhough Dean Tanner'sjobs are specific, he is commif- red ro rhe broad liberal arfs educafion.
