We learned the secret of arriving a bit before chapel time on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday to find an empty chair and to arrive promptly at 6:45 P.M. in the evening if we wanted a private table in the stacks. There were times when we felt like permanent residents here, especially when that paper or research project was due.

If we could afford a study break, or even if we couldn't, we pulled up a chair in the Cage, the center of student chatter, coffee drinking, and relaxation.
