Department of Physical Education The Department of Physical Education has come to be an integral part of the educational cur- riculum at William Iewell. A wide range of courses are offered to suit the needs of all students. The basic program required of all includes instruction in four sports while those majoring in physical education are required to study courses in first aid, health education, kinesiology, plus teaching and coaching methods. The overall goal of the department is to acquaint the students with the fundamentals of physical fitness, to provide knowledge of rules and the strategy of games. Departments of Psychology and Education The Department of Psychology attempts to teach the student to understand and evaluate his own actions and the actions of others with an objective view. The course work ranges from an introductory class for all students to History and Systems or Experimental Psychology in which one attempts to use the scientific methods. The aim of the Education Department is to prepare students for the teaching profession hy helping them understand the principles of learning, giving them a knowledge of the materials of the profes- sion, and the techniques through which to use the materials. Departments of Ancient and Modern Languages The Department of Ancient Languages enables the students to further understand the English language through a study of the structure and vocabulary of Greek and Latin. It also creates an interest in reading classical literature. The new well-equipped language laboratory has greatly facilitated the teaching techniques of the members of the Modern Language Department.
