Every student at William Iewell comes in contact with Miss Catherine Bates, the Dean of Women, fulfills her job in a charming, capable and efhcient manner. She helps plan many campus affairs and sets up the school calendar for all the social functions which will take place during the year. As Dean of the Women, Miss Bates finds herself in close contact with all the problems and triumphs of the women students on the campus. Hers is a vitally interesting job which she performs well. Miss CATHERINE BATEs E. W. Holzapfel either directly or indirectly. As head of the admissions department and Dean of Students, he is a constant and ready help for anyone considering entering Iewell or Wanting work or financial or vocational advice. He directs enrollment, testing, and records. Students readily come to like Mr. Holzapfel because of his warmth and interest. Then throughout their college stay he remains both a counselor and friend. E. W. HOLZAPFEL RICHARD PowERs The position of the Dean of the College is an important one, which is filled capably by Richard Powers. From his ollice comes news of the Honor Roll, changes in the cur- riculum, and news of registration. This is the first year that Dean Powers has been on the Iewell campus, however, he has done a superb job in planning the curriculum and even with ugivingi' out with a bit of advice. Jones If the students of William Iewell College real- ized the responsibility that our vice-presidents assume to facilitate all resources for the students benefit, a great deal of thanks would be in order. The Vice-President of William Iewell Col- lege, Dr. H. l. Hester, is well known for his sincerity and geniality. This industrious man received his B.A. degree at Wake Forest. He later received his Th.M. and Th.D. at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. H. I. HESTER Vice-Pres1'dent of the College Minetry L. Iones returned to his Alma Mater to become Vice-President in charge of Business Administration. His duties often take him away from the HillH for his responsibilities include close contact with Alumni. MINETRY L. Ioivns Vice-President of Business Admz'niszratz'0n Much Work is required to fulfill the obligations that these men have-to the school, as well as the students. Student Government The Student Senate is the legislative branch of the Student Government. lt is responsible for coordinating student activities and for providing an organized means for working out the problems of the Student Body. It also represents the Admin- istration in various areas of college life. The various activities of the Senate are carried on through a system of committees composed of Senate members and Administrative committees composed of stu- dents who are not members of the Senate. The Legislative committees include committees on chapel, elections, freshman orientation, student affairs, Board of Control, and the National Student Association. The Administrative committees func- tion in four areas: school spirit, public relations, campus grounds, and the calendar. The Committees are coordinated by the Student Body President with the assistance of the Cabinet, which is com- posed of two Senators appointed by the Student Body President with the approval of the Senate.
