The Chapel Roll Cali. Like one who dreams at even tide of days long passed away, Of days of genial sunshine and hours of pleasant play, So you dream oft when twilight falls and hides hoth hill and dell, Of other days-when in life's morn-- era- you heard the Chapel Bell. You took your seat as lrrcslwmen and saw a form of grace+ With silvery hair, and genial smile and happy. loving face- And heard his voice- -homesickness Hedge- your heart with love heat When hrst you heard the Chapel Roll as called hy Uncle Dick. Then years passed on. As Sophomores you needed good advice, Up to that little office you hastened in a trice. As Juniors and as Seniors you often spent an hour fn talking to him and you felt the drawing of his power, Each morn he stood through many years and called the Chapel Roll. Each morn he played the chapel song through all those days of Old. And then th. d ' at ay in Sunny June you hade the Hill adieu. With heavy heart and tearful eye you sought associates new. And now nie often wonder, when nie leave the long loved Hill, If thoughts will surge hack here-wardseu and we trust they ever will And if they do come surging hack to scenes of college days, On what will they most linger in all this hlessed maze? Will it he on some victory we won hy power of hrain? Nay, on those matters trivial we'll look with fond disdain. But there is one sweet memory that fain will stir our soul, And that will he the voice of him who called the Chapel Roll. I6 quick
