'Qne out of every six fatal motor accidents involve drinking and driving. 'Approximately 6,700 people between the ages of fifteen and twenty-four are killed each year in such accidents . . . That's twentystwo people every day, one person every hour. tlvlore than eight percent of the driving population are teenagers. They drive a mere six percent of all of the miles in the US. l-lowever, they account for at least fifteen percent of all drunk drivers in accidents. hltccording to the Surgeon General of the Lift, ,wer the past seventy-five years, life expectancy in the US. has improved in every age group except those between the en gi titteeii and twenty-five, whose death rate is higher today than it was iiventy years ago, due to drinking and clrivinfg.

' ' lt's like l died and came to heaven. is how Coach Tom Stevenson described it when he arrived here at Taft. After successful years of coaching at South Gate and Belmont l-ligh Schools, Coach Stevenson has shed some light on Taft athletics. This last season Stevenson led the Toreador football team to capture the Sunset League Championship and a city playoff berth boasting a 6-3 record. Stevenson also coaches over league, city and state championship track and field teams. With Coach Stevenson at the helm, the Taft sports program has become one to be reckoned with. l-le believes strongly in pride and self- motivation and it shows through the teams that he coaches.
