You Lal-sni'I!?2,mo' fi? What station were you listening to in 1987? Was it on the right side of the dial around 106.7 KROQ? Or all the way to the left near 95.5 KLOS? Perhaps it was near the middle near 10l.l KRT1-1? FM radio has changed a lot over the past years. KIQQ 100.1 changed to KLlTE and mellowed its music. Magic 106 became KPWR 105.9 and picked up its pace with dance remixes and top 40 hits. KKHR came out strong, but quickly changed to KNX 93.1. KLSX is a new station with a classic rock of today and yesterday format whose popu- larity is growing fast. Une major change was that of KMET 94.7 to the Wave . lts music changed from rock to a combination of top 40 and oldies. Qther stations around in '87 were KHS 1027, KlL1-I 1023, KOST 1035, KBIG 104.3 and KNAC 105.5. Which was your favorite? ff ,- fx. Y , F Q1 f 1557 I X . He holds all of Taft's scoring records: Single Point Game 43 versus Reseda, average 34.5, Most Points in Year - 687, Most Points in High School Career - l,25l and Freethrow Percentage 84W in 1986 and l987. Kevin is also the only Taft player to make All City Team twice and All Valley Team 3 times. Kevin's great scoring comes mostly by longrange. His superb jump shot is tops in the city, if not in the state. Kevin is a master at creating shots in the air and getting himself open to unleash his deadly jumper. lf his outside shot isn't working, he has a great first step and glides to the basket for a layup. His defensive skills are also quite adequate. Kevin plays down low in the 2-3 zone defense. lf they want man-to-man defense, he would be covering the opposing team's best scorer. His rebounding skills are great, averaging 8 rebounds per game. Kevin's great scoring ability led him to score 79 points in two games against the nation's third-ranked team, Fairfax. He also brought five Taft students to start the K-Corner in honor of Kevin. Every time Kevin scores a point, a K would go up on top of the gym. High school basketball is just a stepping stone for Kevin. He will be playing college basketball next year and possibly a professional career. Taft fans are expecting great things from Kevin Franklin in the future.
