TAFT ALIVE! i L J A SPIRITED I-IOMECOIVIING xx Homecoming this year was the most spirited event at Taft ever. Thanks to Deborah Wright and the Student Cabinet, our homecom- ing was electric. Positive comments could be heard all over the school after one of our most exciting weeks in Taft's history. On the first day of Spirit Week 1986, the homecoming nominees literally stuffed their faces in the Pie Eating Contest. On Tuesday, students dressed in school colors and wore sunglasses. The nominees saved their appetites for Wednesday, when they all engaged in an Ice Cream Eating Contest. lt was also the day when they dressed up to represent their club. Each club sold their favorite delicacy at the International Food Fair on Thursday. Then came Friday, the big day. Homecoming Day started off with an exciting pep rally and thundering Snake Dance. This year's theme was lt's A Small World and each club created a float of their favorite country. The Freshman Steering Committee float, Australia, won Most Outstanding. The Most Original was awarded to Tribune, the Wizard of Oz. Knights and Ladies' Scotland won Best Decorated and Most Spirited went to the Cheerleaders' lceland. All of the spirit paid off because Taft beat Monroe 35-7. Dancing, great music and enthusiasm were what made the homecoming dance so much fun. Nominees for King and Oueen included lason Bromberg, Ami Ro- senguist, lra Leibowitz, Sonja Collier, Oshun Pierre, and Desiree Carter from Senior Steering. CSF nominated Paul Neinstein and Mee Kim. Cheerleaders nominated Andy Wellische and Toni Chan- dler. Drama nominated Molli Wood. Bike Club nominated Kenny 14 Winn and Stacey Friedman. lazz'd nominated Eric Branof and Elise Davis. The Club nominated losh Polston and Suzanne Hirsch. Tri- bune nominated David Weiner and Gigi Whittiker. German nomin- ated Scott Barker and Mary Gill. Knights and Ladies nominated Howard Donnell and Michelle Travis. House of Representatives no- minated Andy Cabbe and Kathy Park. Spanish nominated Rod Bai- ley and Sharona Sarshad. Drill Team nominated l eff Applebaum and Wendy Forest. SADD nominated Mark Koransky and Wendy Saunders, Cabinet nominated Eric Bohren and Kim Woodard. l unior Steering nominated the following for Prince and Princess: David Flores, lennifer Garson, Andi Berk, Ali Riback, Greg Singer and Lisa Vinnecour. Sophomore Steering nominated losh Stenger, Dina Sheets, losh Leibowitz, Morgan Doctor, David Saranow and Stacy Goodman. Freshman Steering nominated Hank Wethington, Heather Guyett, Ben Shamoil, Michelle Abercen, lason Ades and Courtney Lake. The winners were announced at the Homecoming Dance. Freshman Prince and Princess were lason Ades and Michelle Abercen. Sopho- more Prince and Princess were Dave Saranow and Stacie Goodman. lunior Prince and Princess were David Flores and lennifer Garson, Senior Second Prince and Princess were lason Bromberg and Mee Kim. First Prince and Princess were Eric Bohren and Kim Woodard. The Homecoming King and Oueen were Oshun Pierre and Toni Chandler.
