SCHOOL SUPPORTEFQS VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS - Dr. Allan School has organized a committee here at Taft and has written a grant proposal for a class that would benefit students with talent in the visual and perform- ing arts. The proposal has been approved, and Area IO has given us a grant of S4,w0. This class will be used as a pilot class for the entire LAUSD. This program will include researching topics involv- ing the general theme of LA's Bicentennial, then transforming this information into scripts for t.v. production. Some samples themes are The impact of movies and t.v. on LA , LA's Intercul- tural Heritage, and How international foods relate to LA . Mrs. Feldman, Mr. Chang, Mrs Fein and Mrs. Navara have assisted Dr. Scholl in getting this program underway. 'lu SCAC - Front Row. SCAC is the School Community Advisory Council. They have been at Taft as well as other schools for about ten years. And what do they do? They act as a communi- ty sounding board for the principal, concerned with school cur- riculum and administration. Are you a parent. student, administra- . 7 d tor, faculty member or community member. lf you answere yes to any of these, y ou can become a part of this group. 169 BOOSTER CLUB - Top Row: Dave van Gorder, Marvin Borden, Paul Swanson, Frank Ring, Helen Tuttle. Front Row - Nick Brecker, Bob Yates, Larry Howard, Barbara Van Egmond. Hard working and certainly deserving of more recogni- tion, this devoted group of parents, teachers and adminis- trators work behind the scenes promoting involvement in school activities. ln addition to operating the snack stand at the football games and awarding trophies for athletics achievement, the Booster Club this past year established a memorial fund for Dave Camblin. Striving toward their objective of a spirited student body, the Booster club has proven to serve a needed function at Taft. PTSA - The Parent Teacher Student Association, PTSA, is a group of volunteer workers who work together for service and enrichment to Taft High School. Pyllis Hurwitz is PTSA President. This year has been extremely productive they strove for a student oriented PTSA program this year. These volunteer workers have served Taft by helping at spring and fall registration, providing and hosting a Back to School luncheon for teachers and personnel, selling tickets and chaperoning Grad Nite, and many other ser- vices.
