All City 1974 Bill Spooner Charlie Young End Quarterback All League 1974 The Taft Varsity Football team exacerbated many of its opponents this year as it compiled an eight win, two loss record. They played exceptionally well in wins over El Camino, 15-14, Canoga Park, 36- 4, and Reseda, 16-13. The defense was ranked second in the valley. Players like Dave Rosenberg, Tom Simpson, and Steve Lane helped make this ranking possible. The team was quite offen- sive this year, andthe offense was also ranked second in the val- ley . Charlie Young passed for 1,909 yards, mainly to Bill Spooner who caught 56 passes . Darell Krasnoff and Larry Weinhouse led a fine offensive line that protected the passer and opened holes for running backs Brad Dexter, Tim Ferrin, and Jeff Thomas . Taft's Bee Football team won its second consecutive West Valley League championship, with an overall record of seven wins and two losses and a five and zero league record, The offense scored 97 points and the defense held league op- ponents to 13 points . The captains of the team were John Allen who was the Player of the Year, in the West Valley League and Jeff Blanks who was also a member of the first team all league and was voted most inspirational by his team mates . Bob Grobman , another member of the first team all league was voted outstanding linebacker, Greg Lampert who made first team and Scott lVlilne who made second team were the most improved while David Bieber was voted outstanding back. Steve Forrest, Drew Fitzgerald and Steve IVlcCalla all earned places on the first team list making the Taft total seven. Bret lVIiller, Steve Kulchin, Craig Hancock and Bret Henry made second team .
