Concerning Tribune ln which a member of the school newspaper staff discusses the problems, accomplishments, and potential of that organization . It would be a gross deception to imply that all the members of Tribune amiably participate in the production of a competent school newspaper. But, because it is a large class Crapidly growingl and comprised of such extremely diverse personalities, it is understandable that confrontations arise, and antagonism between the students results. lVlr. Pearl purposely maintains the class on a loosely structured basis, and gives students willing to cooperate the opportunity to contribute their ideas, thus enabling them to partake in all the glory and fame a school newspaper can provide. When left to our own devices, without interference from the authorities, much is achieved---perhaps too controversial for the administration to feel comfortable with . But we are of the belief that debate can provoke profound thoughts with which a newspaper functions . Nevertheless, the Tribune possesses immense potential . lf supplied with appropriate funding, and allowed to pursue its own channel of progress, it could prove to be not only an invaluable instruction for the future journalists in the Tribune class, but also for all the inhabitants of the school who are the least bit interested in the activities encompassing them . - Yv , t of if , f 5, rv Q 1 - ,---..,Yw,,-N- V F, ' 1u.,,i,-AP A-NM ' J v, ,Q - - , -, - ' 1 li' ' ' , .

STANDING: C.Tetef, M. Bell, L. Rosengard, C. Medway C Johnson S Stovall G Pornerantz C Maron, R. Hartman, J. Kalmenson. CARRIED: S. Olshansky Student Cabinet was not established to run the school. In fact, a lot of their work is busy work -- setting up calendars, planning dances and assemblies, running elections, distributing helpful in- formation to the student body, maintaining inter-school relations, receiving and answering mail concerning various activities, and dozens of other small things. The Student Cabinet formulates the budget and keeps an eye on it throughout the year, allocating extra funds to needy departments. The students in cabinet make many im- portant decisions, as well as a number that concern only a fraction of the student body Cwhich are labled insignificant by other stu- dentsl. Student government devotes much time and effort trying to make school more interesting and enjoyable, although their efforts seem futile to many. Besides these other duties, Student Cabinet is a place to learn. By working together, the students acquire a sense of responsibility. Nluch is learned about people, social con- flict, and organization. We feel that student government offers a glimpse of our future in the big bad world. Although it may sound trite, Student Cabinet cannot function efficiently without the input and participation of the entire student body. lt is unfortunate that people are so quick to criticize, but so slow to offer help and sug- gestions. A. Kassan, Fall President
