Its purpose is to teach its members about basic Christian doctrine . The leaders have obtained a sub- stantial background in Biblical knowledge by attending numerous seminars and college Bible classes. Their job is to relay some of their knowledge to the members. This is, perhaps, the most beneficial of all clubs be- cause what is learned can be applied to one's daily life . l Film Club SITTING: L. Anderson, E. Germain, B. Tannenbaum, P. Brumbaugm, M. Booth. As Bosley Crowther, a film critic once said, Prac tically everybody concedes the vast importance of motion pictures . We acknowledge that they are a major mass communication device of our age and a major new art form . We now know that much of our culture is encompassed and transmitted in them. Thus, for this and other obvious reasons I feel that we should have a new critical sorting out and re- examination of the great works of the cinema . . . Film Club could not have said it better. That is why the club meets every Friday afternoon to view the classics of the screen .

Knowledge Bowl is the van- guard of intellectual stimulation and competition . Weekly meets pit brains and wits of rival high school teams in questions con- cerning not only general knowl- edge but the finer points of history, philosophy, theology, art, music, mathematics, science, and just plain non- sense , This year, t1e Taft team has proved itself able to better all opposing teams . The Chemistry Society of Taft High School was formed by a group of enterprising young chemistry students for the sole intent of bettering mankind. This goal has not been accom- plished yet, but the society continues to work toward it. Membership in the society is strictly limited to those aca- demic achievers demonstrating superior skills in chemistry, The club members have the unusual experience of being under the tutelage of the famed chemist William Kroot, who has kindly volunteered to assist the members in preparation for the prestigious American Chemistry Society High School Exam given every year. The club has held numerous seminars and visited such well known re- search facilities as Atomics International laboratory of North American Rockwell, lVlembers have utilized their knowledge of chemical theory by discovering practical uses for Quasidimentionalanalysis, the creation of perfumes, silver plating objects, and the produc- tion of contact explosive golf balls for the sponsor. l,4. ., ,V J w-unf-- --:qv lmggisuz ' , ,, I-Tuf ' , Knowledge Bowl KNEELING: M.
