A Shui M3 S There are three classes offered in Agricultural Education and taught by Nlr. Hill. The most popular is Animal Husbandry CIAB through 3ABD in which domestic animals and industries related to them are studied, and students are allowed to start their own animal projects. Horticulture C1AB through BABJ teaches students gardening, land- scaping, forestry, fruit production, and other related subjects . Floristry students learn to make artificial flowers, corsages, and flower arrangements . Students in Animal Husbandry and Horticulture are eligible to join FFA, The Future Farmers of America CFFAD is a national organization of, by, and for students enrolled in vocational agriculture in high school . The FFA has more than 550,000 activel members and 8,500 chapters located in the nation's public schools. During the year, the FFA chapters participate in field days where students learn to judge various types of livestock, poultry, and dairy cattle. Highest scorers are then eligible for the state competition which determines the participants for the national contests . Some activities of Taft's FFA have been teachers' barbeques, Navajo Indian can drives, and other fund raisers. Jointly with the Science Department they are building an ecology area with waterways and various types of terrain . The total membership of the Taft FFA has almost doubled in the past two years with a high of 75 members this year. FRONT ROW: S. Hopler, N. Klarfeld, K. Beer, S. Murphy, R. Hill, T. Wilkenson, C. J. e . 'NJ The use of specially designed machines has improved the quality of education, making teachers and students more efficient. Special slideftape presenta- tions allow teachers to introduce mate- rial in a format that is more interesting to the student. Overhead projectors save time and take up less space than blackboards. Calculators help students perform repetitious mathematical com- putations. Well equipped vocational classes provide students with simulated on-the-job training. These tools add significantly to the learning experience at Taft. T .. .A i I V . FL' g 17
