Because he is like the knight of Canterbury Tales, we echo Chaucer's words: He never had in all his lifetime said An ill-bred word to serf or man of might He was a gentle, true and per- fect knight. We take pride, therefore, in dedicating this, our anniversary issue of The Colonel to our assistant principal, Paul B. Foster. ln memory's kaleidoscope of William Fleming, there will be a variety of patterns, changing and restless. No matter what the design of the pattern, one facet remains fixed. Mirrored there is one whose calmness and gentle- ness, bolstered by a reserved strength swayed the ideals of those students who in their daily contact with him have gained enrichment in their lives.

Now, by its light we trace the hurrying moments of our anni- versary year. The things we will remember: The Seniors achieving at last the cherished privilege of marching first from assembly: the pleading for mercy of Comrade 6482'l on the annual staff program: the decorations dropping-one by one-from an unhappy float in the Homecoming pa- rade: the spectacular Homecoming football victory over our previously undefeated opponents: the opening curtain of the drama, Night Must Fall , the murmur of happy voices blended with the music of the Junior-Senior prom. Our candle will fade and melt into the lights of the past. The future is yours. Guard well its light.
