They have spent hours thinking, planning, and Worrying about the outcome of the games We were to play. They have spent hours teaching us how to play football. They have trained us to be out- standing athletes and good sports. To our Coaches, We give credit for having the highest scoring football team in the history of our school. Ddclubz' Six and ?!ae 2:2194 egimal 'yaatlall 4 The phrase, Fleming Will Win Tonightf' is certainly true of the football team this year. The Colonels made an impressive mark not only in their own record book but in the City, County, and State records. The team secored 285 points to the opponent's SQ which gave them the highest scoring record ever achieved. Both the District Six Championship and the Blue Ridge Regional Championship were won this year. Our lightning-like backs and scrappy linemen always had the score com- pletely out of reach sometime during the third period and then turned the mopping up over to the reserves. Except for the opening game with Jefferson, the aggressive Colonels were never pushed into playing a full game of real football. With the exception of the game with Andrew Lewis, in which the Wolverines scored in the starting minutes, the first team was never scored upon and always the opponentls score came late in the game when the reserves were playing. As far as picking out individual stars, defensively or offensively, that job would be impossible. The Colonels was a team in every sense of the word. Every player did his job and did it to the best of his ability. Never has a team played together with such unity. When we scored a touchdown, there was more behind the story than the ball carrier scoring. The linemen and the other backs threw blocks and carried out their vital assignments in order that the ball carrier could score. Without this he would have never gained a yard. This teamwork was the key to the success of our team. VVith the lights of this most successful football season fading, the memories of this team will never be forgotten by the players or supporters. Looking over the season it can easily be said that the 1952 football team was one of the best- if not the best-to ever wear the Blue and Gold.
