“
As streams flow to their destiny And mountains touch the sky Our dreams soar as high as mountains Yet, like streams, they pass us by. The time we spent in our youth Stole from us the hour. But before we knew it we were grown; Our knowledge became our power. As we overcame obstacles before us The climb was slow but sure. If we faltered along the way. Friends and parents helped us endure. Each step we took left memories Of friends leaving their ways of the past. But we struggled on, our hearts as guides To reach our summits at last. We were given the strength to climb mountains And the power to find our dreams. Our destinies, now. before us lie. In the flowing of the streams. No longer Will they pass us by. Gail L. Mendes TABLE OF CONTENTS SENIORS PAGES 6-43 CLUBS [ PAGES 44-61 ACTIVITIES PAGES 96-127 SPORTS PAGES 128-165 ADVERTISEMENTS PAGES 166-200 Robert Bisset. President JoAnne Rodrigues, Secretary SENIOR The senior officers pictured above are the leaders of the senior board. These people are primari ly figure heads. They are the people who get all the attention for many of the functions which take place at Tolman. What isn't known is that these four people actually work very hard at their jobs. They are the backbone of the senior board. They spend their time promoting the seniorclass. While making decisions and working together as a team, they are setting a precedent for future class leaders. What else is left to say except thanks for your hard work, determination and ambition. 8 PATRICIA MARIE AFONSO 81 Brookdale Blvd. College Tricia Treas. 2,3 Vball 1 Tennis 1.2 Allison—Dawn—Karen You guys are the best! State Department of Education is a four-day citizen involvement program for ninth and tenth grade students and their teachers. The program is designed to give students an indepth exposure to the workings of state government. During the four-day program students participated in a various number of activities such as seminars, workshops, cultural tours and special activities which give them an intensive and extensive view of State government operations. OurTolman In-Site group participated in the program from February 26, 1986 through March 1, 1986. A. Mooza Gracieta (Grace) De Abreu, Secretary Nydia Haddock, Vice President Thomas Ridolfi, Treasurer David Goucher, President 52 SENIOR BOARD 53 The chorus began their year with a new instructor, Mr. Ronald Bianchi. Via the guidance of Mr. Bianchi, the members of the chorus learned new techniques in regards to reading music and performing as individuals as well as in a group. Mr. Bianchi’s enthusiasm and confidence has shown through the chorus’ exuberance and vivacity for being the best. He has taught his students to sing to the fullest of their talent and ability with pride, confidence and the Tolman spirit. 54 All you Zombies . . . Seniors: Tom Andrews, Ana Fonseca and Troy Mello 55 MATH TEAM 57 Student Council is comprised of seniors, juniors, sophomores and yes, in case you have not noticed, freshmen. The council is basically an ambitious group whose primary goal is to bring theTolman family a little closer during the course of the year. They have accomplished what they wanted to do through school functions such as dances, picnics and fundraisers. Those dedicated few who spend their own personal time to work to increase the Tolman spirit and decrease the hypothetical idea that school is not all it’s cracked up to be have done their job. The members of the council have brought the laughter, the music, the enjoyment one should receive from a school atmosphere. One of the most impossible tasks, initiating the freshmen into the high school world with acceptance, was undertaken and completed with dignity by the council. Thanks to President Tracey Hilton. Vice President Sue Godlewski, Treasurer Marianne Lapham, Secretary Michelle Molhan and all the other members who have lent a supporting hand. s c T O U U D N E C N I T L 59 YEARBOOK ADVERTISING CONTRACT FILIT CONTRACTS IN To Business Man itle of Yearbook Ivertisement of Copy writVR Photo furn(PP Photo to Artwork turn' (Printing frorri will be $2.00 r Copy Rec’d Photo Rec’d Ad Prepared Proof O.K. Well, girls, here I am! 97 Mr. Moran, they want to know . . . 1983, 1984, 1985: The years of picnics. They are the traditional beginning of school activities. The majority of the class attended and participated in the games, jokes, food and camaraderie. The sophomore picnic was a beginning of new friendships and the rekindling of old ones. The school season ended on a hot, humid Sunday afternoon in June. People relaxed and sighed with relief. The only downfall was — travelling by bus to get there. The junior picnic was held at Colt State Park, on the rocky coast of Bristol. The day was quite a contrast to the year before; it was gray and cold. The weather was al- most bad enough to postpone the event thanks to an intruder named Josephine — Hurricane Josephine. Nothing can cage our tigers! Our senior picnic was late due to “unavoidable consequences.” The last picnic for the class of ‘86’ was surrounded by the spirit of the tiger. The weather was perfect. The tree branches stretched up- ward toward the sky, pointing to moving clouds. The deep, green grass accentuated the powder-blue sky. No one could have asked for a better way to begin our final year at Tolman High. Does anyone know whal Ihis is? Its all mine. You didn't match cm up very good! Some people laugh at anything. 101 Not me. We did it. 103 104 Ah! That’s better. 105 Our journey began in the his- toric capital of Madrid and con- cluded on the sun-baked coast of the Mediterranean. As we ventured through the varied landscape of this beautiful country, we made new friends and strengthened ties between old ones. We learned to appre- ciate the customs of different people and realized how much we took our own for granted. When we returned we had all changed in some small way by our experiences on this trip. It gave us an education we could never have received in school. It was one of the most memorable events of our lives, and one we won’t easily forget. 106 107 109 PROM The junior prom is one of the most formal and elegent occasions at Tolman. It is one night representing many between a couple and their friends. Ex- citement and nervous- ness spectacularly mingle on this electrify- ing night. Traditionally the male wears a tuxedo and the female a gown. A night which is to be perfect brings out the best in people. Men are a little more polite and manneresque and women are a little more feminine and delicate. The junior prom will stand out in all of our minds. This year the junior prom queen and her court are, respectively; Diane Breton, Patricia Afonso, Dawn Chrys- tie, Lisa Martins, and Paula Meyers. I never expected to be selected Junior Prom Queen . . . It didn't really matter if I was chosen or not. . .1 was grateful for having been chosen as a candidate . . . When my name was called. The team has suffered a slow adjust- ment to a basically inexperienced team with only two seniors, co-captains Ana Fonseca and Erin McKitchen returning from last years’ all star, state bound team.
