f- .i Mr. Edward Shelton, principal of division I, and Mr. William Burlingame, vice-principal spent much time and effort in mak- ing I964 a wonderful year for the seniors and iuniors. Their greatest problem was finding space for everyone because of the increased enrollment. lt was necessary to add seven new teachers. New courses were added to broaden the curriculum. These were salesmanship, business law, advanced business prob- lems and economics. This audioevisual material was cor- related with the textbook material. Building a reading laboratory by collecting equip- ment and materials to assist students with all types of reading problems was begun this year. A reading machine-Controlled Reader-was purchased. lt is a developmental program designed to increase speed, comprehension and enioyment with emphasis on the latter. Word wheels, skill builders and everything from comic books to Dickens' work are used. 26
