Foreword Doors of William Chrisman opened September 4, 1956, for the fortieth time-and the last time that Chrisman will function as a three year high school. This falljuniors and seniors will convene in a spacious new building at 24 High- way and Noland Road. Busy hands have worked hard to make this year one that will long be cherished in the. hearts and minds of Chrisman students. The coming year is a challenge in many ways-a challenge to create a new and better Chris- man as well as carrying on the traditions and achievements of the past. This challenge is incorporated within the lines ofthe poem The Salutzzlion zyfthe Dawn: Listen to the exhortation of the dawn! Look to this year! For it is life, The very life of life. In its briefcourse lie all the verities and realities of your existence. The bliss of growth, The glory of action, The splendor of beauty. For yesteryear is but a dream, And next year is only a vision, But this year well lived Makes every yesteryear a dream of happiness, And every next year a vision of hope. Look well, therefore, to this year! Such is the Salutation of the dawn. -Anonymous- As hands ofthe past have worked hard to make William Chrisman what it is, so must the hands of the future grasp the opportunities that lie before them and make the com- ing year one that will go down in the annals of William Chrisman as one of the best.'l ,
