The endeavor has been called South Mi.ssissippi ' s unique dinner theatre . Its unique- n.ss is attributed to several fa.tors. First, instead of students paying a fee to participate y in many college summer theatres, each member of the company is paid a stipend. Secondly, the program show ases the writing talents, as well as the performing ' A Thurber Camivar abilities, of young people. Showcase was begun in 1975. The past three seasons have in- cluded two original musicals, three musical revues and in 1977 James Thurber ' s A Thur- ber Carnival. There are nine student members of the company and three faculty mem- bers. With the limited number of persons in the group, those participating receive a wide range of experience, from waiting tables to appearing on stage. Auditions, held in the spring, are open to any person who is at least eighteen years of age. This was their way of restating how thankful thev are for the ( .arev students. It was a fine Thanksgiving. Christmas Banquet The annual Christmas Dinner was held on De- cember 6th in Wilkes Dining Hall. It was an entertaining evening with Joe Butler and Lynda Wells appearing as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Musical entertainment was provided by The Madrigal Singers and Carpenters Wood. Mike Gentry welcomed everyone and introduced Bi- lly Browning who was host commentator for the Gong Show. Mr. Gene Brack was the win- ner of that event. The Faculty-Staff-Adminis- tration Scholarship Award was presented to El- bert Charpie as the honor presentation at the conclusion of the evening. 1 ■n k H H J H g l|grg||i HI H H ' ' :- | H JBS % 1 lartuiie Thi- fir--t [irodurtioii of tin- Siram|i(irf PlaviTh for the 19T7-7K acadfiiiic year was Tartuffe by Moliere. I met you with the challenge of hours yet to come. I am a friend as old as the years you know. am Today. Within one small sprinkling of time I shall become yesterday. I shall have Hied, and looked, and lingered yet awhile with you. and then I shall be gone forever. ' j ,, : ' _r Look at me well, for I am your time of promise. Do not use me lightly, for I affect your tomorrows. Remember me for what I am— opportunity for whatever you may choose. I am Today. I have lived as long as man. A thousand times a thousand times since God made night and day. I have seen the earth green with the grace of peace and also black with the curse of war. I have held the fragile promises of men until tomorrow, and then watched them shattered with disrespect. I am Today I am no babe in the woods. no wide-eyed child of time. I am your hope, for I give you the chance to remake your yesterdays. Ned W ' yrick. Jr. W ith great sincerity I uish to thank those who helped to make the 1978 Crusader a success.
