President ' s Message There is a fallacy in the image of genius commonly held today. The superior student need not spend long hours of study and drudgery, for, according to the views of many, it is a mark of genius to make good grades without cracking a book, and without systematic, serious study. Your college is a direct denial of this image of genius. William Carey College is named for a Christian statesman whose life, according to his own words, exemplified that ' I can plod. ' Perspiration, a willingness to work and plodding are essential to the Carey College student. Knowledge comes by the sweat of one ' s brain. Character develops by hard struggle. The 1972 Crusader is a worthy reminder of the strong emphasis of your alma mater that in your struggle toward perfection you shall strengthen character and give stability to your ideas. Dr. J. Ralph Noonkesler, Pres William Carey College 19
