The primary pur- pose of the college is to develop in the young person the ability to think soundly, to evaluate ideas, and to clearly express ideas orally and in writing. Carey seeks to expose weak and inconsistent principles. —SOCIAL COMPETENCE The small Christian college develops social skills — the art of conversation, the ability to talk in an easy and intelligent manner, appropriate dress, the ability to get along with all kinds of people. —PHYSICAL WELL-BEING Good health which issues in alertness and vitality is important for the growing young person. Carey boasts an excellent sports and health program. —SPIRITUAL VALUES Carey College is distinct m the emphasis given to the student ' s development of a Christian philosophy of life — his outlook upon the world, his attitudes, beliefs, and understandings. It was a year of ups and downs on the Carey Basketball court in more ways than jumps. The scores, the number of injuries, the playing and traveling con- ditions, the general working schedule varied from ideal to less than good. The opening Belhaven Invitational Tournament was an excitmg event. Carey lost their first game against Southeastern Louisiana in it, but went on for a Con- solation win over Livingston State, 82-87. Then the red and black got off to a running start with four wins. The year seemed bright with promise until the team, composed of only six returning letter- men, was beset with injuries to key men. The scoring highlight of the season was the Millsaps- Carey tilt in Jackson in February. Final points were 82 for Millsaps and 102 for Carey. Since most of the fourteen players were new to the Carey courts they got the experience they needed and should have a rewarding season in the offing. The faculty and student body will look for great games in 1967.
