DEDICATION The theme of this year ' s Cru- sader is light. It is with pride that we honor two who have helped spread the light of Christian witness- ing in the home, to the college, to the corrnnunity, and to the foreign mission fields. Their lives have reflected the inner glow that comes from being dedicated Christians. Each in his area of service has brought students and faculty to a closer walk with God. Together they have held high the standards of true Christian education, and their gracious personalities have contributed much to the social life of the campus. We think all young men and women should seek to live and think and be like Christ. We think that those we honor this year have helped challenge us to live the best life. It is to you, Dr. and Mrs. Judson Chastain, that we dedicate the 1962-63 Crusader. Mr f i Mfc ;?!-

PRESIDENT ' S MESSAGE Our school bears the name of a short, slightly stooped, not so handsome, intellectual, God-loving William Carey (1761-1834) of Pauler ' s Pury, England. The life pattern of Carey should be the inspiration for all those who study at the school which bears his name. What were his ideals? Carey was a man of strong will, characterized by steadfastness, perseverance and plodding. He was not afraid of work. He was interested from childhood in the pursuit of knowledge. His thirst for knowledge was coupled with his strong sense of his own deficiencies. Carey was fond of reading. Low type novels and plays disgusted him. Books of science and travel were dear to his soul. Carey was a student of world affairs. He made a PresidenI Noonkosfor and family President, J. Ralph Noonkester map of his world, and as he mused over world conditions, his map became his prayer chart. William Carey was not only a student of the word of God but also of the works of God. With the instinct of a scientist, Carey spent mucn of his time in the hedgerows and meadows observ- ing the wonders of God ' s world. Carey was a devout Christian. However, there was nothing sectarian or bigoted in his make-up. It is evident, therefore, that the ideals of the namesake of our school are lofty ones. As Carey ' s biographer, Basil Miller, said, His career points to the fact that God in the life of a man can achieve the impossible.
