Dedication The history of William Carey College Is the history of a struggle for existence. There were years in which harbingers of doom prophesied the inevitable failure of the school; however, under the direction of God and with the support of friends and a consecrated faculty and administration, the college lived, grew, and prospered. This prosperity could not have come without a loyal faculty who accepted the tremendous responsibility that was theirs. Without the encouragement, devotion, and faith of these people, William Carey College might be only a memory today. It Is with great pride and gratitude that we dedicate the 1959 Crusader to the three faculty members who have been with William Carey College almost from the beginning — Mrs, Evelyn McClure, Dr. B. Frank Smith, and Mrs. Fay Eubanks. Mrs. Evelyn McClure has become the symbol of graclousness to all associated with Carey College. In her classes she encourages students to strive toward gracious living by applying the principles of art to everyday living. Her gracious manner Is also In evidence in the social life of the campus, for she willingly devotes time and effort to the task of making such campus affairs as banquets and teas both delightful and entertaining. It is this interest in all aspects of campus social life that has caused Mrs. McClure to be called Carey ' s Favorite Hostess. Dr. B. Frank Smith is a rare combination of scholarship and wit. He Is known as a stimulating lecturer, a skillful writer, and a helpful advisor. His writings often ap- pear in publications of the Southern Baptist Convention. Also, he many times aids both ministerial students and the Convention by supplying speakers for local Baptist churches. He is always happy to use his influence for the good of all connected with the college. However, the trait for which he Is best known is his own brand of dry wit, guaranteed to bring a surprised smile to the faces of harried faculty members and busy students alike. Mrs. Fay Eubanks will always be remembered for her friendly interest In each of her students. Because she is sensitive to the difficulties of others and responsive to their needs, students always find her a sympathetic and understanding listener. Because she is sincerely concerned about both academic and personal problems of students, each one who goes to her receives encouragement and a helping hand.

In Memoriam DR. I. E. ROUSE 1895 August 29, 1958 Dr. I. E. Rouse, a Baptist edu- cator and leader, was President, first of Mississippi Woman ' s College, then William Carey College from 1946 until 1956. He took three buildings, a small group of students and a dream, and out of this laid the foundation for the William Carey of today and tomorrow. Long will Carey students and alumni remember this man and his contributions.
