Ever ' year it is a more dif- fieult task to brinj out an Annual whieh is different from previous numbers. Ihe 1929 Pine Burr earries upon its face the luimis- takable evidence of eareful and diseriminat- inti,- work as well as of literarv talent. I ' he Staff is to l)e eoni ratulated upon the comple- tion of a worthwhile task and a worthv pre- sentation, of collet e life. Dr. }. L. Johnson PINE BURR, 1929 DEAN ' S MESSAGE To the Stu lcnts of Mississippi ll ' oiiuin ' s Colli ijc: As this edition of the Piiu- Bun comes to you, the close of the six- teenth annual session of your Aliiia HI titer will be near. Though our school be young in years, its standing as an institution for the training of young women is assured. Its progress impels one to search out the factors which have enabled it to attain unto its present place in the educational world. Chief among these factors is the faith that you and your parents have in the ideals for which the College stands. This faith is evidenced by your presence here. The college has sought throughout its historj not only to give the highest type of instruction possible, but to create an atmosphere within its halls and on its campus that is actively Chris- tian. The sixteen classes which have been here have made it a pleasure to move toward this objecti e. My message to the student body, therefore, is to revere that for which our College stands, and to keep unbroken the loyalty toward and interest in the College which have been so dominant in all our students. A man ' s future usefulness and influence is largely determined by the college that trains his thinking and helps mold his character. Mississippi College was founded in 1826, and today is the result of con- tinued progressive activity and thought: her alumni are prominent in every worthy profession and business of the nation, and these are the test of the work and influences that are so carefully safe-guarded for each student ' s benefit that comes here. 1 borough and high scholarship, development of strong Christian character, and personal attention to each boy ' s needs have always been the applied ideals of Mississippi College.
