They Hold First Football Homecoming-1964 HOMECOMING COURT Nancy Holt feighth gradej, Pam Holt Cninth gradej, Carol Ann Holt ftwelfth gradej, Barbara Clements CQueenJ, Linda Kay Joy Celeventh gradej, Raye Evans Ctenth gradej. A varsity football team made its debut at William Campbell in 1963-'64, With it came the first football homecoming game with all its associated activities. The football team made the nominations William Campbell High School celebrated its homecoming night here with a 12-6 victory over its closest county foot- ball rival Rustburg High School. Jack Carr, who had been an outstanding defensive back for the Generals, also turned in a dazzling offensive perfor- mance as he carried the ball 17 times and gained 125 yards, making both William Campbell touchdowns. Highlight of the halftime festivities was the crowning of the Homecoming Queen, Miss Barbara Clements, a senior, by Mr. James E. Strickler, Principal. 115 from which the student body selected the queen and court. Following the game, the home- coming dance was held at the Community Building in Brookneal to which the alumni of William Campbell were invited. This signified that each student had a part in setting the flames for victory over the opponent. The cheerleaders using the Brookneal Volun- teer Fire Department hose extinguished the fire after leading the gathered group in cheers for victory while the fire burned. FRONT ROW: Edith Little, Beverly May- berry, Barbara Guthrie . SECOND ROW: Kenny Conner, George Little, Steve Bodkin, Butch Francis, Gene Poe. These students dressed as space men rock- eted to the field at half-time to announce the homecoming dance after the football game.

Juniors Entertain Seniors With Prom KING Earl Lee gf... PRINCESS Maxine Sowell is The annual Junior-Senior Prom was held in the school gymnasium on April 20, 1963. The decorations were centered around the theme Blue Hawaii. The Prom Royalties were elected at the door from nominations of the junior and senior Ronnie Lovelace and Cheryl Bomar enjoyed dancing to the music provided by the Lancers of Lynchburg. QUEEN Carol Anderson PRINCE Dennis Moseley classes. Other candidates who made up the court were Beverly Mayberry and Frances Phillips for Princessg Joyce Sowell and Ann Leigh Tonkins, for Queeng Pete Hamlett and L. H. Williams for Princeg and Wayne Poe and Don Mayberry for King. Mrs. Pauline Marshall, Andrea Peak, Barbara Cle- ments, Sibyl Woosley, and Donna Perrow string straw which is used to build the hut that is the center of in- terest in Blue Hawaii.
