GUIDANCE I 5 GUIDANCE COMMITTEE Front Row: Mrs. Christine Crabtree, Mrs. Pauline Marshall, Mrs. Myrtle Fore, Mrs. Lucille Riegel, Co-ordinatorg Mrs. Mary Maddox. Second Row: Mr. J. J. Riegel, Mr. Dennis Riddle, Mr. Bobby G. Pratt, Mr. James E. Strickler. Each member of this committee discusses problems with pupils, administers standard tests and guides pupils in choosing their high school courses. They sponsored Career Day which provided an opportunity for juniors and seniors to talk with representatives from most of the colleges in the state. They administer scholarship tests, and Mrs. Riegel sees that pupils have a change to use the guidance material in the Clinic Room. Mrs. Riegel gives the directions for the Scholarship Qualifying Test which about 20 juniors and seniors took. Career Day was held on November 26, 1958. Representatives from colleges, hospi- tals, and business firms interviewed juniors and seniors. STUDENT CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION OFFICERS Polly McDowell, Assistant Program Chairman, Jean Armistead, Program Chairmang Tommy Puckett, Treasurerg Jimmy Evans, Vice Presidentg Gary Vassar, President, Mrs. Marshall, Sponsorg Jo Ann George, Secretary, Ann McHaney, Reporterg Frankie V-'are and David Raney, Recreation Chairmen. Every student at William Campbell is a member of the S. C. A. Its purpose is to co- ordinate all clubs and to provide activities which are of interest to the entire student body. Gary Vassar, chairman of the Lynchburg District S.C.A., presided at the District meeting which was held at our school on November 3. The delegates heard talks, attended discussion groups, and were en- tertained with a talent show. Mrs. Marshall, Ann McHaney, Billy Fore, and Polly McDowell represented our school at the 1958 State S.C.A. Convention at Rad- ford College, Radford, Virginia, in March. The State Convention featured outstanding speakers, discussion groups, and a banquet and dance. 52
