GUIDANCE I 5 GUIDANCE COMMITTEE Front Row: Mrs. Christine Crabtree, Mrs. Pauline Marshall, Mrs. Myrtle Fore, Mrs. Lucille Riegel, Co-ordinatorg Mrs. Mary Maddox. Second Row: Mr. J. J. Riegel, Mr. Dennis Riddle, Mr. Bobby G. Pratt, Mr. James E. Strickler. Each member of this committee discusses problems with pupils, administers standard tests and guides pupils in choosing their high school courses. They sponsored Career Day which provided an opportunity for juniors and seniors to talk with representatives from most of the colleges in the state. They administer scholarship tests, and Mrs. Riegel sees that pupils have a change to use the guidance material in the Clinic Room. Mrs. Riegel gives the directions for the Scholarship Qualifying Test which about 20 juniors and seniors took. Career Day was held on November 26, 1958. Representatives from colleges, hospi- tals, and business firms interviewed juniors and seniors. EXPLORATORY CLASSES-LIBRARY my FYI' MRS. MYRTLE FORE'S EXPLORATORY CLASS IN READING InReading, emphasis is put on speech, compre hension, and word study. EXPLORATORY CLASSES The eighth grade is divided into four exploratory classes for aperiod of nine weeks each. The classes are reading, art, music, and home economics for the girls and agriculture for the boys. Exploring in these clas- ses helps the eight graders to make wise selections of cours- es and electives in high school. Exploring in Art QPuppet Showj STUDENTS AT WORK IN THE LIBRARY The library is open at all times for students who want to get books, read papers, and magazines, or to get reference material. Miss Rachel Whitlow assists the pupils in select- ing materials for reference and recommends books for recreational reading. 49
