CLASSES Approximately 300 students have grown into the 900 that today make up the student body of William Byrd High School. Each of these students are different, having a personality of his own. Divided into five classes, the students are able to lead and be led on various activities. The eighth graders are led by the freshmeng the freshmen by the sophmoresg on and on it goes, year after year, each attaining a new and higher goal in leadership. Being different in their interests, the students are divid- ed into three groups: college preparatory, commercial, and general. The college preparatory students spend most of their time studying foreign languages. complicated mathematics, and laboratory sciences. The commercial students prepare for future careers by taking typing, shorthand, and studying bookkeeping. The students who take the general course pursue a wide variety of subjects. This enables them to make up their minds for a definite course of study. Yes, all this tells the story of the students of William Byrd. Not only do they grow physically, but they also grow mentally. Each day they obtain new knowledge to put them on the road to a successful life. Z4
