lla TWENTY FIVE YEARS ON THE HILL ln 1932 at ceremonues held as part of 1-lomecomung at Vunton Hugh School the cornerstone of a buuldung was laud Thus buuldung has sunce become an untegral part of the town of Vunton and the surroundung areas Work progressed and un 1933 wuth Herman L Horn as pruncupal the buuldung was occupued and a tradutuon for good edu catuon was started The years passed and more and more young men and women gathered knowledge at Byrd Changes were made and un 1937 a new oddutuon was add ed to accommodate the growung student body Then 1941 war and many of the young men of Byrd served theur country un the servuces Some dud not return but many dud return and educatuon went on wuth Paul E Ahalt as pruncupal Wulluam Byrd also has held a hugh place un sports and extracurrucular actuvutues as evudenced by the 1949 quarter state football champuon shup won by a tune team coached by Leonard V Hale Charles L Jennungs was made pruncupal un 1952 A new shop buuldung was constructed un 1954 Now un 1958 Wulluam Byrd has completed twenty tuve years atop h hull Our hustory us not complete however wuthout mentuonung the men and women that Wulluam Byrd has produced throughout the years They have become leaders un Vunton Roanoke and un varuous other sectuons Everyone of these wull always ottrubute a large part of hus success to the years spent on the hull 3 4 A - A , A X f 'tt 1 X - 'J 'l u Fc C , TLT Al 9' 1 s 1 JT ' f 9 T' .
