Wvilliain Byrd of Xllcstover was known as the Black swing, since he was always innnaculately dressed, usually in black, and because lie was so graceful. lle was a noted author and a capable and influential public official, possessing an unusually large lihrary. The founding of Richmond is attributed to him, for he laid the plans for the city. lt is altogether fitting, therefore, that our school should bear his name and that our yearbook should be called THE BL.-XCK SWAN.
