It seems but a short while since the Class of 735 entered Vinton High School as Freshmen. And these four years have been very pleasant and successful ones for us all. In the fall of 1931, one hundred and eighty-nine boys and girls entered the portals of Vinton High School, and enrolled as Freshmen. It was the largest Fresh- man Class in the history of the school. We were placed under the guidance of Miss Margaret Zink. Fountain Chapman was elected president, assisted by Elwyn Gearhart, Corinne Epperly and Harry Penick. Our first year of high school was not so eventful as it was a new path in life for us. When we entered school, as Sophomores, in the fall of '32 we found our class diminished to II3. We were again placed under the supervision of Miss Zink. James Stinnette, Virginia Firestone, Clayton Tolley and Garland Pursley were chosen leaders of our class. This year found our class well represented in the activi- ties of the school. Juniors! VVe can hardly realize that it is true. And only 79 of our group to still carry on our work. Irvine Berry was chosen president with Charlotte Scott, Jessie Moore and Charles Whitmire filling the other offices. Our play Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patchi' was a grand success due to the untiring efforts of our faculty advisor, lXf liss Sybil hflarshall. The Junior-Senior reception was the affair of the year. And we suddenly realized that we were to fill the vacant places of the Seniors. Seniorsffit is almost unbelievable that we have reached that goal. Irv'ne Berry was again chosen as our president, assisted by Charles Penick, Jessie Moore and Mary VVyatt Petty. This year our class decided to publish a school paper The Swan. Mr. Thompson agreed to supervise the editing. It proved to be a successful undertaking due to the efforts of Doris Brown as Editor-in-Chief and Ruth Moseley as Business Manager along with the excellent cooperation of the student body. VVe hope that it will continue to be a custom of the school. Work was begun early in April on THE BLACK SWAN. The members of the staff were elected by the class. They are as follows: Jessie Moore, Francis Falls, Edward Lassiter, Evelyn Crews, Charlotte Scott, Virginia Firestone, Kenneth Moore, Jesse Kaylor and Conrad Ferguson. We know that it will be a book worthy of our class and school. The class decided to adopt a standard class ring for our school, it was de- signed by Conrad Ferguson, Doris Brown and Nelson Kingery. The College Hobo is to be presented in May under the supervision of Miss Sybil Marshall. VVe know that it will be a huge success. Now the final year of our school life is nearing an end. VVith graduation close by it is with a feeling of sorrow that we bid our friends and happy days good- by, but it is with the happy thought that We have accomplished our efforts in holding up the honor of our Class of '35, S I
